Caseworker looking for brief work placement for student interested in game design
Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here, so I'm sorry if I'm doing anything wrong. I am a caseworker looking for a brief work placement for a girl in Kingston-Upon-Thames in her late teens who is very interested in game design. She is very sociable, intelligent, hardworking, and tenacious, but she has significant mobility issues and uses a wheelchair. I was told to reach out to organisations related to game design, animation, and digital media within a 45 minute driving radius of Kingston-Upon-Thames, and I searched painstakingly, but the vast majority of organisations have not responded to my emails, and the ones who have responded state that they lack the accessibility to support her. I have Googled the most accessible companies in the UK, but the vast majority of those are retail, food service, and corporate work, all of which seem quite far from the creative job that this student desires. Can anyone suggest any digital media organisations that might help, or any other resources that might help inform me? Thank you so much. As an autistic person myself, this work is very near to my heart.

Hi @AldenRW, welcome to the community. That's a tough one, sorry to hear you've not had much in the way of responses yet. I'm afraid I can't think of many more things you could try other than trying to connect with people on somewhere like LinkedIn, but the community might have some ideas to share.
The person you're helping sounds wonderful, I'm sure many places would be lucky to have her with them so it's such a shame nobody has been able to offer anything yet.
Have the companies that responded been open to chatting about anything they could offer her or were they quite strong in saying they couldn't help? I wonder whether any of them could offer even just a quick chat or a meeting just to talk about the industry even if they can't offer any work placements. I'd understand if that's not an option though, it sounds like you've been working really tirelessly to find something suitable.
Sorry that I can't be of more help, but I hope you can find some options soon!

Hi! I can note that before learning game design, a student first needs to learn how to "draw on paper and make sculptures from plasticine". It is also necessary to have a good knowledge of the folklore of many peoples of the world.
