Hi, my name is dondons79! I was in a house that was classed as supported housing and was recieving..

Hi
I was in a house that was classed as supported housing and was recieving ESA and .i was recieving the highest rate of sdp.my rent was paid through housing benefit.i then had to change to UC and was still receiving sdp.i was in the same property and they change my tenancy to be paid through UC I lost 420 pounds a month because they said it would take me over the amount capped.i read that disabled people receiving disability payments are exempt from the cap.i basically was paying my own rent because of the amount I lost.
Was this right what they did ?

If you rent privately then the amount UC will pay for Housing Element is capped and linked to your Local Housing Allowance rates, which often don't cover the whole rate.
Being on disability benefits doesn't exempt you from this cap.
If you get Daily Living PIP it's possible in some circumstances to get an extra bedroom paid for, but that's it.
Have you spoken to a trained benefits advisor?

No that wasn't the problem.i was living in the same property originally was supported housing then after 2 years I rented same property but privately.when it changed to private renting the 460 sdP I was getting stopped.
Was that right due to benefit cap

Because you get LCW or LCWRA with your UC you are not subject to the benefits cap.
You are subject to a cap with the amount of Housing Element you can receive.
There are two issues one the change from legacy benefits, two the change in your tenancy type.
SDP is not paid with UC but you should receive Transitional Protection with your UC, so at the time of transfer you aren't worse off compared to legacy benefits.
If your UC Housing Element pays more than your hb did (possibly due to change in tenancy type), then you might not have seen the Transitional Protection you would have expected.
I suspect this is a complex issue that you need advice on from a trained benefits advisor.
