    @Catherine21

    Catherine, you’re right, now is the time to keep the pressure on MPs. Starmer’s WFA announcement isn’t a full reversal, but it proves that public and political pressure is working. His partial climbdown, following poor election results, shows concern about losing voters and facing rebellion from his own backbench MPs.

    Pensioners and charities have shown today how collective action can influence policy. Did you ever think, after all the times they stood by stopping the WFA, they would stand in Parliament ten months later and climbdown?

    We can achieve the same with the welfare reforms. We need to keep the pressure up just as the pensioners did. If MPs feel the heat from voters, they’ll be forced to reconsider, not out of goodwill, but because ignoring us will come at a political cost.

    Let’s keep pushing until he stands in Parliament and announces a U-turn or even a watered down version of the welfare reforms. It can be done if the pressure stays on, the pensioners have done it!

    Dead right MW123 + Catherine,

    There's some better news now, not for us yet but…

    They're going to climb down on the winter fuel allowance for pensioners. That's just the start folks, they reckon there's also a big Labour rebellion brewing on the welfare cuts. There's growing panic because they know if they keep on as they are, they'll be slaughtered at the next election.

    The latest is Raynor suggested behind the scenes before the March statement, that they should have increased taxes on the wealthy instead of benefit cuts - apparently she's got a lot of support in Labour:

    So keep sending those emails in folks, keep their minds focused. Let them know we ain't going quietly. When they know their jobs are on the line, they'll think again.

    A couple of useful articles to include if you send them an email:

    1. Oxfam's ideas for making a fairer society:

    2. Patriotic Millionaires - they advocate a more equal society. An unequal society like ours is not only morally wrong, it's more unstable - nobody wins, not even the rich:
