Hi to all that have had a problem with a vaccination and found like me that both a doctor and physio had not heard of Sirva.

The doctor appeared to be defensive when I said I was fine when I walked in when given the injection by the Nurse but not when I walked out and have now been in pain for 8 months and on medication for it.

I like to think I have a high pain threshold yet I would say that my initial pain level out of 10 was a nine and as a consequence could not sleep for weeks after and to date cannot lay on my left side in bed. I will say that the pain and throbbing has reduced dramatically over time.

What is interesting is after the X-ray the doctor and physio were going down the road of well you are a man of 70 who is showing signs of arthritis in his shoulder etc however I pointed out that may be the case but I was showing no signs of pain when I walked in to have the injection but had pain that was more than the stated pain that they tell you after having an injection which in my case multiplied over the follow days.

I am waiting to have an ultra sound at this time to see if if shows anything at this stage so far down the road.

I was interested to hear that the position of the person giving the injection should be they are seated and that one person had a plaster put over the injection site both of which never happened to me, I will research this as I am now due to have a second shingles vacination and to be totally honest am very hesitant as I do not want to go through the same problem again but in the other arm.

When I spoke to my old physio on line he told me that he had dealt with lots of patients who had experienced the same Sirva issues with lots of patients after having the Covid vaccinations .

I would be very interested to hear constructive comments on the above.

Dave

Hey there @David6 welcome to the community!

I'm afraid I have no words of wisdom for you, I just wanted to stop in and say hi. Hopefully some other community members will be able to share their tales. 😊

Hi @David6 - & welcome to the community from me also.

We actually had a lot of discussion about SIRVA, which I must stress was not due to the vaccines against Covid themselves being used, but maladministration of the vaccine into the shoulder joint instead of into a muscle (for anyone else reading this).

I think we were all sceptical about SIRVA at first, tho I read that it had happened with vaccines for other conditions. However, as more & more people joined this forum, some from other countries & forums where discussing SIRVA wasn't allowed, it became apparent how real SIRVA was, & how much pain people were experiencing due to this. This is one of the (very long) threads about this:

(Despite my best efforts this post seems to link to the last page rather than the first. You can see the page nymbers at the top of the page, so click on the number 1)

As a long retired physio myself you can see I contributed quite a bit on these threads talking to other members, & offering simple exercises that I hoped would help, as members were having a long wait to see a physio.

I've had Covid vaccines myself, but always checked they were going to give the injection in the correct place! I don't think the person giving the vaccine needs to be seated, just there's a bony projection of the shoulder at the side of your arm, & the injection should be into the Deltoid muscle measured 3 fingers down from this bony projection. When it was given too high the injection wasn't going into this muscle, & SIRVA resulted.
