Survey: Thoughts about media representation of disabilities, chronic conditions and impairments?

Hello! My name is Isabel, and I am a postgraduate student at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) conducting research for my Dissertation.
I am conducting an ANONYMOUS survey asking people living with impairments, long-term conditions (like chronic illness) and/or disabilities about their observations of how mainstream media represents such realities.
If you have any impairment(s) or long-term condition(s), and/or if you identify as disabled, I would love your insight!
Please note: you must be 18 years old or older to participate.
Participation is completely OPTIONAL and takes about 30 minutes. Some questions will be personal, but never in-depth about your specific condition(s). Your name and identity will never be revealed to anyone. If you find any of the questions in the survey upsetting, you can skip them.
You can also stop the survey at any time. If you participate but later decide you don’t want to or withdraw your consent, please let me know by July 10, 2025, via I.A.Hardy@lse.ac.uk.
You can see more details below. Thanks!!

Research project title: Where do people living with disabilities, impairments and/or long-term conditions see themselves represented in mainstream media, and what do they need from this representation?
What is the purpose of this research? What is the method?
This research is for Isabel's Dissertation, as part of her Master’s programme in Media, Communications and Development at the London School of Economics (LSE).
This research is conducted via an anonymous survey.
The survey is hosted on LSE’s recommended secure website server, Qualtrics.
Who will conduct the research?
Isabel Hardy, a postgraduate student at the London School of Economics (LSE), is conducting this research for her Dissertation. If you have any questions or concerns about her research, you can reach out to Isabel at i.a.hardy@lse .ac.uk.
What personal data will be collected?
This survey requires that you be 18 years old or older to answer, so your response affirming that you are 18+ will be collected.
This survey also requires you to write your name or a pseudonym to sign the informed consent, if you decide to partake in my research. Any supplied name or pseudonym will never be shared with anyone but my direct supervisor, Professor Myria Georgiou.
All the following questions are optional for you to answer and will only be recorded if you answer them:
- age group;
- ethnicity;
- gender identity;
- if you consider yourself to be disabled;
- if you live with a long-term condition, impairment, or illness;
- Generally what type of disability you live with. The survey does not ask about your specific medical diagnoses.
The survey also asks optional questions about your personal experience observing disability/impairment/long-term representation in the media.
How will my personal data be stored and for how long?
Personal data will be stored on Qualtrics and in secured university servers, in accordance with the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Data Management Policy and Research Privacy Policy. All personal data will be deleted after completion of this project, in late August 2025.
When does the survey close?
The survey will close at 11:59pm on July 10, 2025.

Hi Isabel, I've completed your survey.
It was much easier and shorter than I expected once I had dealt with Question 2. My initial response was to close the page! The question asked how I expected the survey to make me feel and I imagined it would make me feel uncomfortable but it didn't 😅
A word of advice since you want the best mark possible - 12 noon and 12 midnight not am/pm. 'Originating' means from so don't use those words together. Apart from that it's perfect!
Thank you for your interest in disability/impairments.
