With UC it is your award before deductions that you need to compare to your legacy benefits.

Sometimes when migrating to UC you are mistakenly paid too much of the old income based benefit, which is supposed to stop at a certain point after claiming UC.

When this happens, the amount is deducted from your UC award. Usually it's paid off from the first deduction but if not a deduction will be taken from your monthly payment until the amount owed is recovered.

You aren't worse off financially because you've already received the overpayment of legacy benefits.

Hi, ah its confusing ,i submitted the form on the 3rd n received the 2 week run on,maybe it was that? As i got full esa payment n not the cb esa which i am now on even though for years i assumed i was on ir n not both elements..it doesnt say its an overpayment or they will carry on deducting.it all looks correct bar that deduction .thanks for replying :)

A 2 week run on of ESA is correct, the amounts vary from person to person because it depends on where you were in your ESA payment cycle when you applied for UC.

"benefits you were not entitled to" does usually refer to an overpayment of legacy benefits by mistake.

You can ask via your Journal (using the payment option) if any money is still owed following the deduction of £69, or speak to DWP Debt management on 0800 916 0647.

Under the deductions bit and saying you received benefits you weren’t entitled to it should say which benefit this is. I had a deduction for housing benefit as I actually had a run-on of 2 weeks and 6 days so my deduction is for 6 days of my rent.

Well im still nobe the wiser.i rang uc but she had no clue n told me to ring esa,the lady there had no clue n directed me bk to uc.this one asked if if had any esa payments since id submitted my form (i said yes,one run on,then my 2 weekly cb esa payments as im now on new style plus uc.she said itl be deducted every time but then said it was an overpayment n to wait for a reply in my journal .arggh! If they are going to deduct 69 every month then il be worse off when im not supposed to be under this managed protection? Im seriously baffled

If you get New Style ESA they'll deduct £609 every month. You won't be worse off because you'll be getting exactly the same amount of money from ESA instead.

The £34 probably is caused by an overlap between IR ESA and UC. Very difficult for us to confirm that one.

As advised you can speak to DWP Debt management on 0800 916 0647, they should be able to tell you if any amount is outstanding.
