Tea "scum" solutions
Since being prescribed meds which interact with caffeine I’ve switched from being a big coffee drinker to a big tea drinker. Tea does have caffeine, but I used to grind my own coffee beans and a cup of my coffee is = to about 10 teas!
We live in a “hard water” (more minerals in the water) area which causes limescale in our kettle but even with a clean kettle we get “tea scum” which is where the minerals interact with the tea and cause sediment (known as tea scum). It’s harmless and tasteless but I’m fussy with my OCD and often find myself pouring a cup away
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to minimise or eliminate this? The fact I get it sometimes and not others suggests I’m unknowingly altering some variable 🤔
I tend to let the kettle cool for 20 seconds before pouring to not scald the teabag, but my dad has a habit of pouring boiling water… there seems to be less scum when he makes me a cup, maybe that’s relevant

If you put the water through a water filter jug before putting it in the kettle, that should stop the scum forming. It is a bit more hassle though!
