First UC payment is wrong and I am so stressed

Hi. I hope someone can help me, as I am getting so confused and scared. I was in ESA Support Group and told to migrate to UC. I applied on 1st June. I had a home visit on 25th June to do an identity check and I got my first payment today.

They have just given me £400.14 today, as my first payment. They have forgotten the health element, transitional protection and also my housing element (which I asked to be paid directly to my landlord). I phoned and also left a note in my journal. They replied to tell me I owe them £384, as I had been overpaid in ESA. My last payment of ESA was on 25th June (same day as my identity verification).

So I owe them - even though they haven't paid me even half of what I was getting before. I phoned again and was told the systems are down, so I need to call back.

In the meanwhile, I am having a meltdown (schizophrenia and bipolar), as find all this so stressful to try and sort out.

If anyone can give me any reassuring words or help, I would be so grateful. Thank you.

Sorry to update my own post. But they have just sent me an updated statement saying

    Standard - 400.14

    LWCRA - 423.27

    Transitional Protection - 236.74

Does this seem right? I have asked for a spare bedroom allowance, as my carer stays over a few nights but they haven't given me this. They say they have deducted £70.96 from my housing costs / rent.

It hasn't gone into my bank yet, so maybe they will do this later. I have also asked to be paid every two weeks, instead of monthly - so will this happen on my next statement? Thank you for any help.

    Hi,

Yes that payment looks correct if you previously had SDP with your ESA.

When you get two payments each month, you still only get one statement. Each payment will be for approximately half of the monthly payment.

Thank you so much OverlyAnxious for your reply. I am just waiting now to see if they will put it in my bank and whether I have to now pay my landlord, even though I asked it to go straight to them.

I also used to get EDP as well as SDP, with my ESA. Do they count this as well? Sorry I don't understand any of it.

So sorry to keep on but I'm very confused.

    When I got ESA - I received £244.65 a week.

Made of - living expenses £92.05 weekly

extra money because I'm severely disabled - 82.90 weekly

extra money because of the disability income guarantee - 21.20 weekly

extra money because I'm in support group - 48.50 weekly

So I'm not sure how they have worked out I now get 423.27 a month LCWRA and TP 236.74 monthly. It doesn't seem to add up to me. But math isn't my strong point. Sorry for not understanding it all.

You are getting exactly the same amount of money.

You need to add UC Standard Allowance.

    £400.14 +423.27 +236.74= 1060.15 Universal Credit.

Legacy benefits £244.65 weekly, monthly equivalent £1060.15

(to convert a weekly benefit into a monthly you multiply the weekly amount by 52 then divide by 12).

As a carer for my mum who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, I know how hard it is to deal with this condition, let alone DWP making our lives hard. Hope you do feel better about your situation soon x

That is so kind of you thank you. Yes it has been very stressful, They still haven't paid me the rest of the money into my bank and I am getting so tired of chasing them up about everything. I wish you and your Mum well. x
