LCWRA and UC when moving out

Hello everyone! I'm thinking of moving out with a friend of mine, and I am wondering if my benefits will change because of it. He works full time and has an office job, but after speaking to citizens advice, I am worried that my benefits will be cut because he will count as my partner after speaking to citizens advice. Is this the case, and if so, how much of my benefits will be change/will it be changed at all. We will be splitting bills accordingly and I will pay my fair share. I am in receipt of LCWRA and UC, and I am in part time work. Also 90% of the way in saving up so I've been sensible for saving up rent in advance and deposit.

Just asked another friend and he said CA are wrong and he should just be my flat mate, but I'd love input from everyone else! Everybody was so lovely when I put in my first post :)

PS will I still be entitled to housing support from the DWP?

Hi,

If you are genuinely only friends then you do not need a joint UC claim. That only applies if you are a couple. UC will want to see proof that you are not a couple if you live closely together.

Housing Element will depend on the way that you are taking on the tenancy. For example, will you have an official joint tenancy agreement showing that you pay exactly half of the rent?

Hi, sorry it took so long, but yes our names will be jointly on the tenancy agreement, so the assumption being that rent will be split in half.
