Severe disability payment

Just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to review a possible backdated claim? They have dragged their feet for 15 months now and we filled in the IS10 forms over the phone 8 weeks ago (one for old address where my husband lived alone he was living alone for 10 years before we got together) and one for his current address with me although we knew he wouldn't get anything as I claim carers allowance for him now. They rang today just to tell him about the claim for his current address with me and nothing about the backdated claim and now they say they have forwarded on the information, surely they should have already received it and been reviewing it? It's just been a long time waiting for him. They even said on the phone he should have been entitled to it. It would be very helpful to him as he would like some items to help himself become more independent.
Sorry for the long post

Hi @youhave13hours
Unfortunately there is still lots of delays and backlogs with payments and claims but hopefully the phone call means that its being reviewed now and fingers crossed, you won't have to wait much longer!0 -
He got the call today...nearly 10 years worth of backdated payments…he's still in shock.
They said It would only be disregarded with UC for 12 months but indefinitely with ESA. Why not with UC too?
Thanks

New Style esa isn't means tested so not affected by receiving a lump sum.
UC is means tested.
Congratulations on getting the money he is entitled to 😊

Is there a way that UC might disregard it for the lifetime of his claim? I've seen other people asking the same on here. But don't know how he can find out.
Thanks

I believe if its under £5000 then its disregarded up to 12 months, however, if its over £5000, then they disregard it for the lifetime of your claim

Do you know how long UC typically take to make their decision on this? They've stopped our UC payments now.

Hmmmm Im not to sure how to answer that question to be honest. Im assuming that they have asked you to send the letter from DWP confirming the £40,000 as proof of backdated payment for the qualifying disability benefit you were entitled too??? Im sure once they see that its not earnings or savings and is indeed a backdated payment they should continue with your UC payments as normal….
I do hope they sort it out soon for you 🙂

We took the letter in in petson to the jobcentre a few weeks ago and they scanned in there and then. Im sure they said it'd be sorted by the time the next payment was due but that was yesterday. Feels like he's waited so long for this backdate and now more waiting whether he can keep it or whether they'll close our claim.

Haha yes I know. Its just been ongoing for a year and a half I'm not known for patience lol.
I'm sure he will he wants some tech to help him as he can't see so more independence would be great for him. He is looking at an AI guidance tool (like a guide dog lol)
Night night and thanks for replying swiftly I appreciate it.

Upon reading further it says for monies to be "disregarded for longer whilst being on UC" that the person needed to be claiming the SDP OR was atleast entitled to it before joining UC. As you mentioned that his SDP stopped when you moved in together im just wondering if thats whats causing the issue???? Hmmm

He was on ESA for many years before being moved to UC when he was on his own, when he got put on UC he then made the claim for the backdated SDP but it took over 16 months before they actually awarded it. It was after he put the claim in for the SDP that we moved in together and claimed UC as a couple. I then helped him chase it up as he'd heard nothing for months.
So he was entitled to it before joining UC. I did wonder I this situation would mess things up.
