Hi folks, I'm new here. I'm in my mid 50s with a chronic back condition which now means I need crutches to get about. Nearly three years ago I lost my job as a result of this and have been trying to manage the constant pain and the changes that have arisen. I receive the lowest level of PIP but I am struggling financially. I need a job but can't stand for long or sit for long without huge discomfort. I have no idea what I might be able to do.
Anyone else find themselves in this position?

Hi @Poicoi and welcome to the community! So, there are a couple of things I can suggest here. It might be worth speaking to a benefits advisor to understand if there are any further benefits you can claim to support you. If you're not presently on universal credit, this might be an option to help with low income. You could contact either Citizens Advice or Turn2us (who also have a great benefits calculator you could use).

We also have a support to work team that might be able to help you with finding a job that works for you. You can sign up to speak to one of the team here - Support to Work | Disability charity Scope UK

Yes mate, and now nearly 16 years out of work.

In 2010, I asked the Jobcentre for help to find work, and they told me just to away and live on my ESA, there was no real help available! They were just there for the "dole monkeys" [sic].

I feel frustration when i look back, so try not to think about it.

My advice would be to fill your days with new activities, mundane or otherwise. If you can't do that then the voluntary 'third sector' could do with whatever help you can lend them. ( A hospital visitor can bring alot of pleasure, and fitness doesn't come into it).
