    I don't think that making ID Cards compulsory is going to solve anything.

    To start with - if you lose it - how will you get a replacement and how long will it take ?

    Then there's forgeries - no matter how clever they get with design - forgers are one step ahead.

    Then there's a problem that if it gets stolen - you will have to prove your Identity before anyone believes you .

    The whole idea fills me with dread - they will no doubt rely on these ID Cards and when you forget or lose it - you will be seriously lost !

    They passed some bill in June to set this up not quiet sure what but a stepping stone hopefully be enough pushback but seems starmer gets through what he wants if I had capacity to learn or retain information I would take driving lessons and sell everything get a camper van but with my mind it holds noting because im seriously trying to think of ways to escape the matrix and come up with no plan

    @Catherine21

    Hi Catherine, you were right to raise it. The Data (Use and Access) Act was passed back in June. It did not create ID cards, but it set up the legal framework for digital identity systems, including how public bodies can share data with approved providers.

    And today, the government confirmed plans to make digital ID mandatory for Right to Work checks. So while it does not say "digital ID" on the tin, it lays the groundwork. That is why today's announcement fits the pattern. The infrastructure was already being built.

    Had this been listed in their manifesto, I doubt they would have the government majority they now enjoy. Many would never have voted for them had they known this was their intention. Little wonder voter's trust in the government is low.

    Making it compulsary is a laugh, how are they going to force people to have it? fines? prison?

    Also I have some family who are technophobes and never used a computer in their life, let and don't even have a smart phone. How are they going to force people who don't even use anything related to technology to have one.

    This world is so messed up at the moment, with trump in the US, politicians in the UK, wars in the rest of the world. I have very little faith in humanity at the moment. I can't help but think we are on the verge of something major happening in the world and tbh at this point I'm kinda wishing it as the whole world needs shaking up.

    I was onesie ahead of this and emailed my email regarding digital ID this was his response on Tuesday before announcement be intreasting to see how he votes also ive emailed and asked why pip is not being conducted with many charities and why the gagging clause

    Text reads: Dear Catherine, Thank you for taking the time to contact me about digital ID cards. I understand you have concerns about the use of digital ID. I want to assure you I recognise the importance of making sure any digital tools we use are secure, preserve people's privacy, and work for everyone. I believe that digital ID should not be made mandatory. As your MP, I support people being able to continue to use non-digital systems if they want to in every situation. I note that nothing in the Data (Use and Access) Act will change this. The use of non-digital IDs will not be affected and I am assured by the Government that traditional physical documents such as driving licences will remain available. I have long been an advocate for ensuring services remain available and accessible for all and ensuring individuals are not digitally excluded. I strongly believe we should all have the choice to use services digitally or through more traditional means. I believe this important legislation will ensure that anyone who wants to use digital ID services, can do so with confidence. Its provisions will free up vital time for front-line workers and relieve people from unnecessary and time-consuming tasks. In addition, it includes strong safeguards to ensure people's data is properly protected. Thank you once again for contacting me about this important issue. Yours sincerely, Tan Dhesi MP

    One step ahead thats meant to say
