But it's an ID card, nothing to do with banking. Love to know how much it's going to cost the taxpayer, as if we have to pay for them, there will be public outcry.
I don't want one, I already have plenty of ID.

I'm struggling to understand why they want to introduce this and what benefit they think it would have. The supposed benefits suggested don't make sense and have been refuted by experts… Sooo…..
It's a no from me! 👎️

As someone who's online a lot, I expect combining all the various companies like FB, the DWP, JustEat, Google, they already have all of my data. 🤷♂️

True true @Albus_Scope, my data is everywhere but combining them all in one central place, from an organisation (the gov) I don't like, or trust, whose leader and use of said data could end up being someone like Farage?? I'll pass.
Do I care uber knows how many deliveries I get each week,
a little, it's far too much,no!Do I care my bank and shops know I spent £60 at adultsuperstore (I didn't, but if I did), again no.
Do I care that one organisation, that I don't like, trust, and controls the legislation around my income, housing, medical care and everything else, will have access to it all combined in one neat place and can use it as evidence of whatever they fancy? And can use it to deny access to places, shops, products and anything else that whoever is in charge decides? Absolutely.
Look at the US and how they're using period tracker apps against people? We should be being more concerned about our data, not less.

It's been done for many years with farm animals double ear tags passports tattooed ears microchips blah blah

There's a big Difference we consent to that if I decided to go back to a basic phone and ditch all that its my choice with Digital ID it wont be

Yeah but I don't want to be a farm animal wearing ear tags 😫 (Edit: Unless it's a pig, I love pigs!)
Waaaiit, farm animal? Animal farm eh? 😁

All good points there @Biblioklept having everything centralised will of course have pros and cons. Though, I'm pretty sure the games giant Ubisoft has all of my data, all in one place by now. 😆

I appreciate your point of view, Albus. You’ve said what many of us are worried about. All these companies already hold bits of our data, but bringing it all together under one digital ID does not make it safer. It just makes it easier to get locked out.
If the system makes a mistake, or your details do not match up exactly, you could lose access to benefits, housing, healthcare, basic essentials. And there is no human to fix it. Just a system that says "no".
And what if your phone is dead, broken, or out of credit? Millions of people in the UK still use pay-as-you-go. If you cannot afford to top up, you are stuck. No login, no ID, no way in. Some areas do not even get a decent mobile signal, so even if your phone is working, it might not help.
Not everyone is confident with technology either. If you struggle with apps or online forms, you are already at a disadvantage. A digital ID just adds another layer of stress. This is not about making life easier. It is about putting more power in fewer hands. And when that goes wrong, it goes wrong quietly and at scale.
Just look at what happened when the British government accidentally leaked the personal details of hundreds of Afghans who had worked with UK forces. One spreadsheet, one error, and lives were put at risk. That was not a tech glitch. That was a system built without enough care for the people inside it.
Just because the data is already out there does not mean we should make it easier to misuse.

It's exactly what you think it is, people use them to know when they're next due etc, but with the stricter contraception and abortion rules in the US it's been causing issues with companies selling data

100% agree with everything you said @MW123! You worded it far more articulately than I ever could ❤️
