An app, any app cannot just appear on your phone it has to be downloaded.

I've not seen anything about this in the news @Catherine21 the best I could find was someone mentioning it on Reddit. Which I don't take as gospel obviously 😆 But they were talking about the Gov app, which has been around since early 2023 I believe?
Anyone else remember when Apple decided we should all have U2s new album and automatically downloaded it to all our iPhones? I switched to Android phones a week later. 😆

Which government app ? I can't see this happening as apps have to downloaded. Could it be that it's a advert/ recommendation , whilst visiting the website ?

Thanks @MW123 as we're trying not to spread rumours or misinformation, I was asking Catherine21 for links so we could verify them.

I will not be downloading it, looking at an ID system that is purported to be to keep our borders secure , to stop illegal immigrants from working or accessing benefits, the Government are selling it as all positives, because they care so much about us and want to make life easier for us. Saying it will help parents access free childcare and free school meals. They announce more free childcare/more free school meals but there aren't enough nursery or care staff to cope at the moment or funds for school meals so it's along the lines of BJ's 40 new Hospitals all **** and wind. I hate everything being digitised, I am a luddite, I get so stressed when I can't understand tech and guess what it's not always me being a numpty, it is often bugs in the system or poorly developed programmes. Saying that I also worry about security of data, GDPR etc , so we are supposed to be so trusting about having an ID that means everything about us can be traced, tracked linked to other systems and we have no control or access to consent or not to whoever / whenever /wherever our data is used or stored. Why are we following America into the Abyss again. We've done it for years in health care and look where that's got us. Elon was given the keys to the kingdom by the [Removed by moderator - uncivil] and do you think the hundreds of thousands whose tax, income, healthcare records banking records were accessed by Elon's tech geeks consented, look at the mess that's caused. The absolute sour cherry on the cake for me is Euan Blair, Tony's son owns and runs the company that has the contract to set up and cash in on the deal better stop there before my heads explodes.

Conspiratorial nonsense, almost every EU country has had ID cards already for years, and an increasing number of them are moving to digital. It's got nothing to do with the US.

I disagree

Just because other countries have ID cards and it works for them, doesn't mean it's something we should have here.
I was opposed 20 years ago as a student, and after thinking things through for a few weeks I've decided I'm still opposed.
Too much potential for harm and and not enough benefit IMO.

I have done cybersecurity all my life and ethical hacking, I used to be in a hackivist group back when I was a teenager. I can guarentee if they go ahead with this decision, it won't take long for the system to be attacked and then the whole system will go down. No one will have access to anything, all your data will be stolen and during this attack you won't have access to sevices, bank accounts, money or benefits.
