    Try the calculator:

As you get PIP your income threshold cut off point will be higher than someone without PIP.

So if you have no additional pensions, then yes you are likely to be awarded Pension Credit.

Hi @zoob - I've found AgeUK's info about Pension Credit helpful. If you will get the full State Pension this doesn't mean you wouldn't necessarily not be eligible, &, as Kimi has said, being in receipt of PIP (daily living component) also helps.

Everyone's financial circumstances are different, but please try this to get a likely forecast about Pension Credit: https://benefitscheck.ageuk.org.uk/Home/Start/

You can also ring AgeUK who can advise over the phone: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/benefits-calculator/

I start receiving my SP from January 28th which is £243.55 a week,i get standard pip dl & standard mobility.

I used the pension credit calculator and others which told me I could be entitled to £66.45 a week,i have applied for it and will find out if I will get it when I reach 66 in January as they can't do anything until then.

It does all depend on if I keep my pip award which is due to end in September 2026, my award letter says I will be contacted after 28th September 2025 but as yet I haven't heard anything about being reviewed.

@onmylonesome If you have a current PIP award at State Pension age, your award is automatically switched to an "indefinite" award (10 years).

I am aware of that but I would still expect a review to see if my needs etc have changed?

It is only 7 weeks to my 66th so ???????

@onmylonesome A grey area, I have never seen any definite information. Some information states you are assessed before your current award end date and other information states your current award is automatically extended. Your current award is well into your State Pension so should be "light touch" anyway. A friend who was on PIP at State Pension age was not contacted by the DWP and still hasn't been contacted. With it just weeks to go to getting your State pension, it looks like you are not going to be contacted but obviously I don't know for definite.

It's a wait and see situation.

If you are in receipt of PIP on the date you reach State Pension age, that is the fact that counts. Pension Credit will recognise the award as being in place, and the review date is irrelevant to that calculation. The review simply marks when the DWP may look again at your award, but it does not alter the fact that you are receiving PIP at the point you retire.

Once you are over State Pension age, reviews are usually more straightforward, often described as ‘light touch’ rather than full reassessments.  If your conditions still meet the qualification criteria, awards at that stage are commonly set for around ten years.

However, everyone is still reviewed under the current system, and there is no such thing as a truly indefinite award under the current PIP rules.

Forgot to add. Pension Credit does not treat PIP as income. Instead, it uses the award to determine whether you qualify for additional amounts such as the Severe Disability Premium.

    @MW123

Thank you for the detailed explanation 👍 I am not really expecting a review to be done so close to my 66th but you never know with the DWP!

The pension credit calculator said I could be eligible for £66.45 a week which I assume is because I receive PIP DL standard,i have applied for it and received a email saying they will write or phone me if they need any more info.

At the end of the online application it said they can't do anything till January 28th when I reach 66.

Yes, nothing will count until you reach retirement age, as that’s when State Pension and Pension Credit apply. You’ve actually just slipped through under the old pension rules.

I reach my 66th birthday on 2 May next year, but because the rules are changing from April 2026 I won’t get my first State Pension payment until 2 July. A friend of mine who turns 66 next December won’t be entitled to claim hers until September 2027.

They are gradually extending the months so that anyone born after 6 April 1960 will see their retirement age edging closer to 67.

Ive had a letter today to say that I have been awarded PC from January 31st to September 2026, which is when my pip award is due to end.

As yet I haven't heard anything about a review,im only 4 weeks away from my 66th so am hoping they will just turn it into a 10 year award and PC will continue till ???
