Full state pension can I claim pension credit if I am on pip ?
I will receive a full state pension soon …i am in the middle of migration from esa support group with SDP to UC …presently I receive both elements of Pip daily care & mobility .i am on my own ..no one receives carers allowance for me…if I retain my pip award am I able to claim pension credit even with the full government state pension? I am receiving contradictory advice ..thank you for your comments in advance .( apologies if this has previously been discussed I have difficulty navigating sites .because of treatment for my conditions .)

Try the calculator:
As you get PIP your income threshold cut off point will be higher than someone without PIP.
So if you have no additional pensions, then yes you are likely to be awarded Pension Credit.

So very sorry I know this is out of the remit …but I don’t know if I made my self totally clear I will be on the full state pension £230.25 will I still be eligible? Thank you so much for your help again .

Hi @zoob - I've found AgeUK's info about Pension Credit helpful. If you will get the full State Pension this doesn't mean you wouldn't necessarily not be eligible, &, as Kimi has said, being in receipt of PIP (daily living component) also helps.

I start receiving my SP from January 28th which is £243.55 a week,i get standard pip dl & standard mobility.
I used the pension credit calculator and others which told me I could be entitled to £66.45 a week,i have applied for it and will find out if I will get it when I reach 66 in January as they can't do anything until then.
It does all depend on if I keep my pip award which is due to end in September 2026, my award letter says I will be contacted after 28th September 2025 but as yet I haven't heard anything about being reviewed.

@onmylonesome If you have a current PIP award at State Pension age, your award is automatically switched to an "indefinite" award (10 years).

I am aware of that but I would still expect a review to see if my needs etc have changed?
It is only 7 weeks to my 66th so ???????

@onmylonesome A grey area, I have never seen any definite information. Some information states you are assessed before your current award end date and other information states your current award is automatically extended. Your current award is well into your State Pension so should be "light touch" anyway. A friend who was on PIP at State Pension age was not contacted by the DWP and still hasn't been contacted. With it just weeks to go to getting your State pension, it looks like you are not going to be contacted but obviously I don't know for definite.

The pension credit calculator said I could be eligible for £66.45 a week which I assume is because I receive PIP DL standard,i have applied for it and received a email saying they will write or phone me if they need any more info.
At the end of the online application it said they can't do anything till January 28th when I reach 66.

Ive had a letter today to say that I have been awarded PC from January 31st to September 2026, which is when my pip award is due to end.
As yet I haven't heard anything about a review,im only 4 weeks away from my 66th so am hoping they will just turn it into a 10 year award and PC will continue till ???
