Volunteering
I am potentially wanting to try volunteering one day a week for a couple of hours at a local charity to help my mental health and build some confidence. I am on UC plus the basic PIP daily living and in the LCFW group due to my ongoing mental health problems.
Do I need to let them know? I have not even started yet and have to have a DBS check and do some basic online courses first. I will have to see if I can cope with those first and then would consider starting the volunteering.
Really stressed over if this will affect my benefits and if the DWP will assume I am okay to work if I do manage to start volunteering.
I think it is a positive step but I am not doing it if it will push me into having to go back to work when I am incapable of doing so.
Please help and does anyone else have personal experience dealing with the same?

no you definitely don't need to let them know as you are volunteering you aren't getting paid to do it. I would let them know that you claim benefits though for your DBS check just so you are covered with everything.
