We've all experienced stress at some point in our lives. Sometimes it can be incredibly overwhelming and it feels too difficult to overcome it. This week I'm going to look at the difference between stress and pressure, and the ways in which we can try and manage them.

Stress vs. Pressure

It can be easy to confuse stress and pressure, so understanding the difference can help us to work through them more effectively.

Pressure

Pressure is usually external and comes from demands that are placed on you, such as deadlines or personal responsibilities. It can be motivating, but for a lot of people it can be incredibly overwhelming.

Stress

Stress is an internal response to pressure or challenges. It's how your body and mind react to demands. It can show as physical or emotional symptoms. While a certain level of stress can be beneficial, helping you stay alert, excessive stress can be detrimental to your health and well-being.

Coping Strategies for Pressure

  • Time management: Prioritise your tasks, are there any that need doing now or can they wait?
  • Break tasks down: Break larger tasks into smaller chunks so they are more manageable.
  • Be realistic: Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Be realistic about what you can manage.
  • Stay organised: Write notes, set alarms, or use apps to keep track of your responsibilities.
  • Learn to say no: Don't take on too much. Recognise your limits and say no when necessary.

Coping Strategies for Stress

  • Relax: I know this is easier said than done! However, it's incredibly important for your well-being. It could be meditation, deep breathing, mindfulness, colouring…anything that helps you relax 😊
  • Connect with Others: Social support is crucial for managing both stress and pressure. Sharing your feelings with others can provide comfort and perspective. Sometimes, just talking about your stressors can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
  • Be active: We all have different abilities so whatever you are able to do is fine. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers.
  • Seek Professional Help: If stress becomes overwhelming, consider seeking support from a professional. Therapists and counsellors can provide strategies and tools to help you manage stress effectively. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness ❀️

How do you manage stress? Are there any particular stressors that you'd like to get off your chest?

Since August, I had the uc migration letter, ( All sorted now thankfully) then a wca as my conditions on esa had got worse, as the esa50 I sent in Jan 24 wasn't acted on. Then in September I been having tests as they thought the nodule on my lungs had grown, so they thought it was cancer. So yesterday the tests came back thankfully it wasn't .

So my stress levels have been terrible

You've been through a lot @Andi66, I'm so glad the tests came back negative, that must have been such a relief. I've just added my next post which is about self-care. Do you do anything to look after yourself and relax?

I love listening to music, what do you like? I've wanted to try diamond art but my tremors don't allow it! What kind of pictures have you done?

I find diamond art very relaxing @Andi66 too and there is something really satisfactory about seeing the entire completed piece at the end!
