Mushrooms
Following on from my garden discussion .. I have mushrooms!
Every year loads grow in my garden, all different types, white tall ones, flat brown ones and little kind of button looking ones. I usually just leave them and or they get munched up by the mower but this year there are SO many and some red spotty ones that when I looked them up are apparently Fly Agaric which are poisonous??
Am I meant to rip mushrooms up? Or kill them? Am I inadvertantly spreading their groth by mowing them or leaving them??

Having mushrooms in your garden is actually a good sign. It means there must be a good fungal network in the soil, not just clay and rubble as it seemed. The fungal network joins trees and bushes together so they become more resilient over time. Each individual mushroom is more like a single flower from a large plant-like system underground, instead of being a separate thing in it's own right.
Fly Agaric looks great in my opinion. As long as you're not tempted to eat them, I'd leave them personally! The exception to that would be if you have any pet dogs visiting, as it can make them unwell.
As with most poisonous things, humans experimented with them for millennia for the hallucinogenic effect! It's common for Reindeer to eat them in colder places. Humans witnessed this and decided to drink the Reindeer urine to get the hallucinations at a lower dosage than eating the plant. π²

Fly Agaric can be detoxified, once detoxified they're safe to eat, although if you're on medication I would recommended making sure they wont clash with it. I tried some once, I made a nice thin soup with them and added some garlic and black pepper to it, it tasted lovely.
I consumed quite a lot but didn't hallucinate, they just made me feel a bit drunk and very hungry, they made food taste amazing.

Please be VERY careful with consuming mushrooms from outside. Things can easily go wrong if you don't know what you're doing!
The poisonous ones are very pretty to look at though. Amazing things, mushrooms!

Hi, Rosie. I'd never pick any myself. I bought mine dried from ebay.

I'm not sure I'd recommend that either, but I'm not very clued up on such things!
As long as you're sure it's safe to consume and all the right checks have been done in order for them to be sold as a food product. Always important to be very careful and don't consume anything you're not 100% sure is safe. We don't want any accidental poisonings going on! Glad your experience was okay βΊοΈ

I know a very isolated spot where Psilocybin mushrooms can be found in abundance. I couldn't access the location thses days in my powerchair or scooter.
'Mushy valley' some of us called it!

Sounds like a great place!

Just a quick note to say that we are getting a wee bit close to discussion involving illegal substances that will be against the house rules. Please be a little mindful of that going forward as we are legally bound to remove content around that topic!

I actually really love the thought of that, it all being connected as one big network! Thank you π
More and more I'm thinking of the world as a whole like, how we're all connected and part of this big system, it makes me feel quite peaceful and connected
