Going from single claim to joint UC Both on LWCRA & PIP
Me & my partner live separately we both claim LWCRA & enhanced Daily living & enhanced Mobility PIP, also claiming housing elements of UC. My query is how much money would we lose if we decided to move in together? We both have mental health diagnoses & physical hence the PIP entitlements. I am reading conflicting things about what we would receive. I have a lot of help from family for budgeting decisions etc & my partner is rightfully worried about the single payment which would include his money. We don’t claim any Carers elements to anything is that something we could do even if we both suffer with the same things but my partner is a massive emotional support etc anyway Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Firstly your 2 separate single basic rates would be merged into one joint basic rate. So that's around £200 less overall.
Then you can't both claim LCWRA. But one of you can claim the Carers Element instead. So that's around £222 less overall. (The criteria for claiming CE is that one of you provides 35 hours of care for the other, which is true for most couples in similar situations).
Housing Element will only cover the property you live in, so that will be less, but of course you will only be paying rent on one property, so that shouldn't make much difference to the overall total.
You will both continue to get exactly the same amounts of PIP each.
