Hello am new here and I am struggling yo know what to do next. I am disabled I can't walk for more than 2 to 3 minutes. I had a back op and they now confirmed it's failed back surgery. I have nerve damage in plbotj legs. So use a wheelchair and disability scooter to get around. My mental health is terrible because of all thus and can't cope alone all day while my husband works. Due to many health issues I cant make dinners or anything anymore I don't bath etc. I am on highest rate of pip both elements. My question is it's now got to the stage I can't cope alone. So my husband wants to become my full time carer and give up carer to look after me. But we don't know know how to go about this and what benefits we would recieve. He is 58 and gets a small army pension at 60. But for now we don't know if an y benefits we would recieve would cover rent and council tax. Can anyone help please

Hello @Melb56. The benefits calculator @rubin16 linked is a great place to start. There are lots of considerations that we couldn't cover without knowing a lot more about your finances, so start with the calculator and let us know if you have any questions.

If you have over more than £16,000 in savings or capital you won't be eligible for means tested benefits like Universal Credit, but your partner could potentially claim Carer's Allowance. Do you claim ESA or anything other than PIP currently?

Let us know how you get on with the calculator and hopefully we can help with any other questions you might have.

    Hi Adrian-scope.

We don't have any savings. We don't own any property. It does look like he could claim carers allowance but it also says it could men id lose carers element. I'm still a bit confused. And I only claim pip atm.

    Thank you
