Desfblind assessment
Hiya wondering if I could get some advice again I'm registered blind from birth and have moderate to severe hearing loss from the age of 14 I contacted my la to get a sensory support needs assessment back in May end of July they sent out a vision rehabilitation specialist and had a very short conversation where I stated I would like to give cane training ago then did 6 lessons of cane training and was finished no talk about equipment of any kind I was made aware that I should of received a deafblind assessment from someone who is qualified in deafblindness qcf level 3 minimum so contacted the La and they have since agreed but would need to be outsourced
I have a few issues should the vi assessment been a lot more detailed that a very brief conversation I also wasn't given any paperwork about the cane training I recieved I've googled it and says I should of recieved a care plan/ action plan
MOving forward with this deafblind assessment cab I ask for bsl lessons as part of my care I also struggle to state what I struggle with because I just say im fine so can I just write down everything I struggle with and just give it the deafblind assessor

Hi @KL2025
The visual impairment assessment should usually be far more detailed than a brief conversation and you should've been given a care plan/action plan. You can ask local authority for any copies of your assessment or to raise this as a concern as you should've already received your action plan. For the upcoming assessment, you can ask about BSL lessons or any other communication support you need! It's also usually fine to write things down in advance and hand it to the assessor as well😊 Do you know when your assessment is?

Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer for an assessment date @KL2025! Yes you can ask for that, there's never harm in asking! Especially as you've moved areas now
