pip review form: ar1 vs ar2

i was reading this forum post and it came to my attention there seem to be 2 different types of pip review forms : ar1 or ar2.

i recieved my ar1 form very recently and wow… it just asks the same questions as my initial pip form but everything is smaller so its essentially more questions less space (??)😅

In my ar1 form i will be,in addition to my previous conditions ofcourse, discussing my new degenerative condition which was diagnosed very recently, and the nature of the condition means it's not going to get any better only worse. Does this mean that my next review will be an AR2 form? I'm just curious what parameters the DWP use to determine whether claimants are given the ar2 form or the ar1 form. Also, how do they decide how many years are until the next review??

I'm just very nervous and I am sure many disabled people are especially with conditions that are lifelong. 💗

If let's say after i submit this ar1 review form, and my PIP continues but my next review is very soon.. do I have any grounds to appeal on the basis of ''reviewing me frequently doesnt make sense because my condiiton is degenerative'' ??

@gogigi An AR2 form is a light touch review form for claimants who have reached state pension age or who have an ongoing (10 year) PIP award. This is the only way you will get an AR2 form.

The AR1 form is the correct form as this a normal PIP Review for you after a previous shorter length award. Fill the form out like you did your original form detailing how your disabilities affect you daily, including your new diagnosis, per descriptor.

You may get a longer award if the DWP deem your condition is not likely to improve.

You can ask for a longer award with this Review, but the DWP does not always agreed to it.

If your PIP award continues from the result of this/your Review and you are happy with the award but not the award length, you can appeal stating you are happy with the award and you only want to appeal the award length.

Hi @gogigi - please do just add extra pages with your AR1 review form as there isn't enough space as you saw making sure you put your name & National Insurance number at the top of such additional pages (& make sure you say which question you're answering).

As above, do keep all mention of your additional diagnosis relevant to the descriptors.

I think many will consider they should later get an AR2 form if your needs are stable so unlikely to change, but that often isn't the case. Do argue your case for a longer award; in this case relevant medical info may be helpful to back up what you say.

There's a bit of a contradiction here. You say your conditions are lifelong, but then say that they are degenerative. The award times are based on the amount of time that the assessor expects change to happen - for either better or worse. If you want a longer award time, I wouldn't recommend mentioning an expected decline.
