Is anybody else concerned that today, could be the beginning of the end of life as we know it ?

I mean Trump has gone in to Iran and bombed them - they are a nation of 95 million with "friends" such as Russia - also they have nuclear weapons !

I believe that Trump will pay for this and its going to affect the rest of the world as well.

Not concerned one bit, if it happens then it happens!

Didn't life end with the covid pandemic? The world hasn't been the same since then. Nothing we can do about Trump or Iran from here so we just have to put up with whatever the consequences of their actions will be now.

    @OverlyAnxious

I tend to agree with you.

    Whatever will be will be.

    That's a Defeatist attitude !

We didn't win 2 world wars, and every conflict that we've been involved in since 1066 with that attitude !

My concern isn’t about global instability, it is for the innocent civilians who will inevitably be caught up in events they had no part in shaping.

Whatever governments decide, it is always ordinary people who feel the impact first, and civilians will suffer long before any political point is made.

We haven't won every war and conflict we've been, check your history. Russia couldn't tame Iran back in 1979 and all this will do, is produce suicide bombers around the western world. If anything, they should go in quiet and come out quiet and job done.

The "important ones" - we won

    Agincourt - 1415

    Waterloo - 1815

Spanish -1587 and again 1809 (amongst others)

    WW1 1914-1918

    WW2 1939-1945

OK we lost a few to the french, dutch, italians, netherlands and germans - but they are inconsequential (not important)

So Starmer is no Churchill? Well, Trump is most definitely no Lincoln or Roosevelt. I'm no great fan of Starmer but I am glad he has a far more measured approach and isn't volatile. He'll have no choice but for the UK to be pulled into this war and, I believe, is a far greater statesman than that 'over the pond' could ever be. Worrying times.

It isn't a silly question but I don't know the answer. I don't think Russia or China will get involved, I can't imagine they want WW3. I bet they're just watching but obviously I don't know. I think it's worrying but not a lot I can do but I might stock up on water. It's more likely that our bills will go up more (energy costs etc). I think there's a lot of leaders similar to Starmer (France, Germany etc) who might lead diplomacy at some point. That's what I hope for anyway. I think Trump underestimated Iran he just doesn't think first.

I might stockpile some tinned foods too but moreso in case there is further increases in food prices 'cos of energy price increases. Easier said than done I know but please don't worry Catherine.
