PIP isn't dependant on income and it isn't linked to working. It's non means tested. An award of PIP Enhanced Mobility would make you eligible for the Motability scheme.

Have you tried applying for PIP?

Scope has a CP network https://www.scope.org.uk/cerebral-palsy-network

I believe @SaraC_Scope is the expert.

I started off with a life time award when it was just Dwp . But when it changed to pip I had to jump through hoops at the assessment just to get the lower rate then one nurse decided I wasn’t disabled enough to have lower rate so I had to go to court to get that . I’m just trapped without a car .

You can submit a change of circumstances to try for higher rate mobility, this will see your whole award completely reassessed.

DLA or PIP..which one? A lot of people didn't get invited over from DLA when it changed to PIP.

So you are getting PIP now as it stands?. If you are, have you had an review and they've dropped your pip?.

    Hi,

The sad reality is that some of us just don't fit the criteria for Enhanced PIP Mobility. There isn't likely to be much other financial help for a car as it's expected that disabled people will meet the criteria for Motability. (But still worth asking local disability service just in case).

Having said that, it sounds like you should be entitled to Enhanced Mobility - especially if you are weaker than you were 7 years ago.

Do you know roughly how many metres you can walk now? That is the basic test for PIP Mobility with physical conditions.

Also wondering when your current PIP award end date is? 7 years is a long time so you're possibly near to a review anyway?

That's the catch-22 is it not? Report and hope for a better outcome, or stick with what you have, for fear of losing it.

Indeed, and the DWP aren't daft, they know people will be scared to contest their decisions for fear of losing out completely.

Even if you were awarded PIP via a tribunal, there will still be an end date on your award. The longest possible award was 10 years.

Hi @bomars21. I'm sorry your condition has worsened and that you no longer qualify for motability. As you've already mentioned, it's a risk if you declare a change of circumstances so I understand why you would want to wait. Here is the guidance for the descriptor of 'moving around' on the PIP form so you can see the distances it asks about https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-claim/fill-in-form-pip/14-moving-around/ .

It's also worth remembering if you cannot do an activity reliably, repeatedly, safely and in a timely manner for more than 51% of the time, you are treated as unable to do the activity at all.
