DIAGNOSED with cerebral palsy at just six months old, Bradford woman Alana Walker has not let her condition define who she is or what she can do.

Alana is sitting down looking to camera. There is a kettlebell in front of her

Now 33, Ms Walker, from Allerton is a competitive athlete and is "now looking to break multiple world records and gain a world title."

Specifically, in one arm seated monster dumbbell press and axel deadline in the world championships for Static Monsters, which is open to able-bodied and disabled men and women.

Alana is sat down. She is holding a weight in her hand.

She puts her progress down to her personal trainers, who have since become friends.

Currently, Ms Walker holds the second position in the UK for Seated 3 in Strongman.

Alicia Curtis, PT, and Deputy Manager at Energy Mill Shipley, and Kynan Pike, PT, and Owner of Another Breed Idle, have been instrumental in her progress, she tells the T&A.

"Me and Alicia sit down and set goals on what we want to achieve, monitor progression to hit targets," she said.

"Kynan keeps me relaxed.

Alana and her couch are sat down. They are looking at each other

"Doing sport helps you manage your condition because it's not physio.

"They know that I have to keep up this for the rest of my life, to be fun, not serious, and not depressing."

Her advice to others wanting to get into sports or weightlifting is: "Just to give it a shot, find something you're interested in, just go with a friend if nervous.

"Best thing to do is to jump straight into it."
