Update details on To do list. Worry.

Hi

So this morning I got email saying I had to do things in To do list, basically updating details and one of the things was the amount in my bank account that UC is paid in to.

Is it still £236 from when I applied for UC. Well of course it isn't as I have my UC payed into it monthly and as I've been very depressed and anxious, not going out it has gone up over last months.

What should I do please? Tell them it's at nearly £1k as I get £810 a month and may make them suspicious of wrong doing. I had no idea that had to tell them they pay me when money goes in, thought was just savings account which is still the same.

I'm very worried about what to do as I've a payment going in on 13th. Should I leave a journal message telling them I had no idea or just update savings?

Thanks in advance

Just update the amount, there is nothing to worry about. I have had those messages before.

i'm unsure if i've ever updated amounts as money comes in & goes out all the time, i'd be doing it every day. In my case would they ask me to show statements?

If i update today then they pay me then do i have to tell them they paid me?

I googled it & said i should write in journal saying i've made a mistake..

i mean should i tell them i've made a mistake..? In journal it says that i cancelled updating savings which i did as i didn't know what to do so that must trigger a response from them as it looks like i know i have more money than i should . I'm so stressed about this.

If the account I get money paid into has gone up from around £256 to £1000 does that mean I will lose just over £12 as it's £4,50 per £250 increase. Also my other savings account has reduced from £6600 to £6130 so I'm guessing that levels it out a bit.

What day is best to update savings?

    Can anyone help please

as you have over 6000 in savings you need to update them regularly as that changes, youre meant to update them on the last day of your assessment period each month

Just update the amount of savings you have today. You don’t have £6000 so nothing will change and I really don’t think you need to worry. I had one of these to-do’s. I updated and everything carried on with no further contact.

    Hi,

As above, you should update savings on the last day of your Assessment Period.

If I'm reading that right, you've got around £7,130 in total right now? That would mean a savings deduction of £21.75 for this month.

If you previously had a total of £6,856, that would have been a deduction of £17.40 for previous months.

sorry, I’d not seen the bit about you having a savings account too. Just update it today and add a note in your journal explaining you’ve not been well and didn’t realise you needed to update each month. They will probably ask for bank statements and take back any overpayment.

Hi all and thanks for replies, apologies for being impatient but that's anxiety.

I didn't know I had to update monthly whatever the situation. As last months I been ill I've accumulated a bit more to over £1k in current account I get paid in to. I didn't know I had to report monthly.

Only reason I updated today as because I got the email about updating my circumstances. That my account it's paid into has gone up and saver has gone down. @OverlyAnxious yes correct about my monies @Hopeless I updated and wrote a journal post.. I had no idea when things changed, dates etc,, maybe last month or before so I just put today for the savings and last month for current.

I'm actually going to get less money so is it a matter. I'm due payment next week, will it be that that is lower or the following one and is end of assessment date the date before I get paid?

    Thanks

I have never reported changes each month if I don't spend all as it's obvious each month is going to be different. They have never contacted me about being over £6k. I've just told them the recent changes after recent email in to do list.

Should it all go smoothly if first time I've updated? It's getting me so anxious

Every payment is based on your circumstances on the final day of the Assessment Period.

This is why it's best to update savings on the final day. That means your next payment will always be correct, roughly 1 week after the end of the AP.

As you're over £6k, you should tell them every time it goes up or down through another £250 threshold on the final day of your AP.

When you go to report the change of savings, it tells you how much you had the previous month. If it hasn't gone up or down through another £250 threshold then you don't need to tell them that month.

Having said that, by the time I've gone to the hassle of opening the online account and checking the savings, I just put mine in every month anyway. Mine is different most months though.

I've no idea until now about assessment period, when starts ends etc.

If I don't spend all each month I've never said anything which is why it's gone up to what it is now.

Yesterday was first time I updated as I got email for things to do in to do list.

Will they just see it as my money has gone up this time and that's that. I've no idea dates etc. My health is too bad to do all the bank statements stuff. What can I do please

Honestly, they might ask you for some bank statements in this situation. All you can do is wait and see what reply you get next week.

That'd be going back since I started UC.. There must be other ways if can't do it.. I thought was just savings account that has actually decreased £500 over time. Not what they awarded me.

I told in journal I had no idea dates that money changed as I been ill. I just used random dates

There aren't other ways to do it unfortunately. Because savings over £6k affect every payment, they do need to be declared accurately every time. If you're not up to managing it yourself, then the only thing I can suggest is asking someone else to manage the claim for you. So it becomes their responsibility rather than yours.

Savings includes all money you have access to, current accounts, savings accounts, cash, even premium bonds.

So id have to pay back all money over the years as every payment I've received every month has been the same £810.36.

Someone replied further up said it's nothing to worry about, just update and that's end of it. I'm so worried

  • OverlyAnxious

No. You'd only have to pay back any overpayment. The overpayment is only the amount that should have been deducted for each month. In your case that's only likely to be £5-£10 a month, it won't be a large amount. The UC staff will calculate it all properly if you do have to give them statements.

The person that replied above had not realised you had more than £6000 in total. It would not matter if you were under £6000 because the payments do not change below that number.

You don't need to worry. Just wait and see what UC say next week.

Yes just the overpayment for each month since started getting UC.Would they ask me about money taken out in certain months, purchases etc. I get UC for unfamiliar places I can't go, everything is in my town but would it matter what spent on?

Hopefully they'll just see my update yesterday. For my future reference, is last day of AP the day before I'm payed?, how do I work it out please

Yes, no choice but to wait and see. Thanks

The last day of the AP is not the day before you are paid. It is usually 1 week before you are paid.

If you look at any of your UC statements, they should all show the AP dates at the top. The AP dates are the same every month, they do not change for weekends or bank holidays.
