🐝 Happy World Bee Day

Me either @Emilee and quite a lot of them look a bit like spiders especially the small scissor bee!
Thank you for sharing @66Mustang, it's always fun to know when there are days like this😄0 -
Happy bee day! 🐝
I never realised there were so many types of bee. I'm sure I've got some confused with wasps!
Found a cool link I thought I'd share with some tips on how to save bees: 10 Ways to Save the Bees - The Bee Conservancy

Bees are different, they CAN sting but they tend not to because it kills them.
However some people are VERY sensitive to Wasp stings.

Don't worry, bee happy 🐝

A joke for Bee Day:
Why do bees have sticky hair?
Because they use honeycombs

What does Victor Meldrew say as his "catchphrase"? I don't Bee-Lieve it!

Hi @66Mustang - just popped on rather late to wish you a Happy Bee Day. I always try to buy plants that bees love as they are so important to us all.

I have been nesting in the shed but I'm not brave enough to get up close for a photo

I saved a bumblebee from drowning yesterday morning. It was floating in the crate of water I'd left out for the birds during this heatwave. I fished it out with a tea strainer and left that in the sun so it could dry out and eventually, it flew away, phew! There is now a stick in the crate so even the smallest creature can climb out.

We had a wasp nest under the floorboards of our dining room - 3 years ago - the wasps were using an airbrick to get in - I used home insurance to get rid of them - they went absolutely insane when they were sprayed - This is not Bees though - I like to think that Bees would beehive much better than rowdy wasps !!

@66Mustang please share your bee first-aid kit again thank you!

Hi @WhatThe 😊
There are lots of different ones around, but I got this one (below). I like it because the lid has a little dibber built into it – because the syrup inside is thick it doesn't pour it out of the small vial so you need something to dip into it. With my previous one I used to have to find a tiny stick or a blade of grass or something!

I was walking the dog and came across a bumblebee stumbling around on the footpath, I didn't have my vial 🙁 so put my little friend onto the side of the path so it didn't get trodden on. Hopefully it had a rest and was able to fly off 🐝

I rescued a bumble bee yesterday. It was on the garden fence and was stuck in a spiders web.
I got a tissue to put under it and got a child's paint brush and manage to get the web off by using the blunt end of the paint brush to pull the web away and then very gently brush the web off the bees front legs. The bee flew off so hopefully it is ok now.
I then got my brush and brushed all the fencing to get rid of any other spider's webs. There do seem to be a lot of very fine webs at the moment. 🐝

I'm sure you helped it on its way @66Mustang. And that's so sweet of you to take the time to do that @Bluebell21.
Hopefully both your bees are recovered and off visiting the flowers again now 🤞
I talk to the bees in my garden when I see them. I must seem a bit mad to the neighbours. And probably the bees too. But I like to have a little one-sided conversation with the bees and the bugs 😁

Thanks @Rosie_Scope I was talking to the bee the whole time I was rescuing it. I had to move it just in case Sam decided to investigate. (I would have anyway) Bees are very furry it was a lovely little thing.

They're really sweet, I don't mind picking them up. If it was a beetle or a spider the same size I'd be scared, it's weird how our minds work!
