Hi everyone my name is Laura and I have cerebral palsy. I have a 2 year old son and am facing the daily challenges being a disabled parent brings. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? X

Good afternoon @Laura_C_B. How're you doing today? I know a number of our members have cerebral palsy and are also parents, so hopefully someone will be able to relate! Do you have much in the way of supportive family around you?

I'm going to tag in some of our CP Network team members who I'm sure would love to speak to with you - @Richard_Scope, @SaraC_Scope and @Lucy_Scope.

    Hi @Laura_C_B

I'm Sara one of the cerebral palsy specialists in the CP Network. I have right sided hemiplegia and epilepsy. I'm a parent to a now grown up son, age 22 who we adopted in 2006.

The adoption process was a tough journey and we were initially denied due to my epilepsy, which now feels like discrimination, but we returned after months of conversation and were approved to adopt a two year old.

We had to adapt our parenting style and techniques. I also relied on my extended family to support me sometimes. This was frustrating I couldn't be a parent like those at the school gate. But overtime my son understood there were things I had to do differently and we found a way to navigate being a family.

Is there anything in particular you are finding a challenge? I'm happy to have a chat if you want to contact our team. cpnetwork@scope.org.uk

We also have our Cerebral Palsy Network which you are welcome to join. It's a space to meet likeminded individuals and access resources and information.

    Take care.
