Hot weather struggles

That might be the correct option medically, but concentrated Oxygen in a super heated flat seems like a disaster waiting to happen. I'm already worried about high powered electrics (hot water immersion mainly) and all of the various lithium batteries in here. Can hear one of my neighbours still using a tumble dryer in this heat as well, and I suspect it's on carpet as the kitchens aren't big enough for extra appliances. People are still smoking outside as well, dropping butts right by brown, crispy grass.

@OverlyAnxious I don't know anything about lithium batteries but may I suggest boiling the kettle for washing up and switching off the hot water tank?
Some TV's generate a lot of heat and chargers do too. I use a small rechargeable fan which creates no heat in use. I will be spraying the air with cold water and leaving all my windows open in the early hours.

I'm the same @yellowpineapple84. I invested in a portable air conditioner unit a couple of months back, it was about Β£200 from Amazon. They are probably more now as everyone will be buying them. I wasn't expecting much but it cools the room down so well and costs very little to run. I know that doesn't help you right now but might be something to consider long-term.
I also purchased a cooling blanket which I use in bed. Again I thought they were a fad but they are actually cool and I feel so comfortable in it.
Good luck to you and everyone else struggling this week. I'm in the office Tuesday and Wednesday and it's like a sauna there, so I will be struggling with you.

@OverlyAnxious, could you possibly have a grass seed allergy? My breathing is terrible this time of year because of this.

Cut off all main stream media - I even saw one with a meme of a thermometer bursting - ridiculous.
My grandfathers 2nd wife - my grandmom in law I call her, lives in Florida, she always tells me via zoom about the summers there, her family went to mountain ranges nearby which had cold conditions one day then heat the next, its happened since year dot.

Every time you see an electric car on fire, or a dustbin lorry, or a historic building in the centre of Glasgow, with bright red flames, they're always caused by Lithium batteries. They're in everything portable nowadays, mobile phones, laptops, cordless drills, cordless vacuums, powerbanks, etc. Lithium is an amazing material for a battery, it doesn't have a 'memory' like the old nickel batteries did, but it's also extremely unstable, can spontaneously combust, and there's no way of stopping it once it starts burning, adding water to it just makes it worse. Not saying this to scare anyone, but it really is something people should be thinking about. Not leaving phones charging unattended on flammable wood or cloth, particularly in hot weather, for example.
Here's something that often shocks peopleβ¦I've never owned a kettle! π Don't drink hot drinks so don't have any need for one. Also my shower is just manual, so that takes hot water from the tank anyway. I am using cool showers at the moment, but don't think I could tolerate an ice cold one.
I'm not really looking for more suggestions btw, was just having a moan about the fact that I seem unable to access the type of property that would allow me to manage life. I'm already doing what I can to keep cool, such as keeping south facing curtains closed until the sun has moved past them.

Good point. I do get hayfever as wellβ¦really not a fan of summer lol! π
But I think it's a separate thing, at least in my case. Hayfever is more of a 'physical' blockage for breathing through my nose. Whereas the heat related breathing issues affect both mouth and nose together, sort of feels like there's an elephant sat on my chest.
I do have a slight confession to make in relation to that. When I said bed was intolerable the other night, I realised yesterday I'd closed the window vent because a lot of pollen was coming in, but forgotten to open it again before going to bed. It wasn't quite so bad last night with the vent open. π

Industrial oxygen cylinders and pressure regulators should be usedβoxygen has been used in hospitals for decades. And safety precautions should be observed. For example, no smoking.

I spent part of my childhood living on the Caribbean coast: it's lovely there, isn't it?
I lived by the sea in 1976, nice.
London is no fun in a heatwave, as an older person.

How are you all feeling today with the heat?

Its like a fridge in my flat and bedroom its lovely, I have my blinds drawn and door and windows closed to not let any heat in. The only heat I really feel is if I go outside or stand in it for abit.

Still too hot.
Just over 30c in here currently with the curtains closed.
There was a cooler breeze outside last night which helped to cool the room before bed with windows open. Hoping for the same again this evening.

Do you have any fans on or anything @rubin16? I'm glad it's nice and cool for you. It's a nice temperature in my house too, especially upstairs as we're just keeping the curtains closed.
I hope you get the breeze again @OverlyAnxious. Have you got plenty to drink and eat to keep you cool and hydrated?

Iβm really struggling :( But I like the suggestion about the cooling blanket, maybe I could search for this. Its difficult. I think because my mind and body is struggling with the heat my mind snowballs into worrying about other things like my PIP review and it just continues to downward spiral from there.
I hope everyone else here can be okay today ππΌ

According to the Met forecast, the lowest humidity levels - low 20's - will be on Friday afternoon. That's another factor which affects breathing comfort because water is being drawn from our bodies!
Suggestions for increasing humidity levels include hanging wet laundry indoors and leaving bowls of water around your home. When I have to go out on a hot day, I wash my hair and leave it wet to keep me cool.
Whoever mentioned water-laden salad food and fruit is right. We must stay hydrated.

They have cooling blankets/towels on Amazon @yellowpineapple84. If you have Prime you could get it the next day. I understand the spiralling. Being too hot makes it so much harder to focus and be positive. Could you have a cool shower or wash your hair like WhatThe suggests?

@Rachel_Scope of course, we're forgetting that not everyone has hair!

Hi, trying as many things as I can that are suggested :) Some things I canβt get right now as Iβm too scared to spend the money, need to wait on my review

No breeze last night. Like a sauna in bed again, even with window vents open. π
I can only really eat hard, dry things like toast and crackers which is obviously not helpful in the heat. I only drink water normally (no alcohol, sugar or caffeine) but can't really increase my water intake much either. Maybe an extra 200ml over a day. This is why I don't tend to ask other people for suggestions anymore. My daily life is very different to anyone else's, then it looks like I'm just being awkward when I say I can't do the things that are suggested. π

Thanks for sharing @OverlyAnxious, it's good to get an insight into your life and it makes sense why a lot of suggestions wouldn't work for you. I won't offer any suggestions but just make sure you're doing as much as you're able to to stay cool.
