What you needed was not an Air Con but a dehumidifier - these have the same result through different methods - they dry out the air and the water is collected in the machine (you empty them regularly) Dry air FEELS colder than moist air - hence you feel colder !

Yes thanks, feeling much better inside after that positive news this week and hopefully these temps can lower soon as they’ve been really difficult at night. Thanks for your suggestion, I will look into it and see if it can work for me. How are you feeling today? :)

It still feels quite humid, the thunder and lightning has just started up, I went as quickly as I could to get Gus bed inside.
The rain stared as i type, very heavy it is too!

I'm very jealous! I love the sound of heavy rain. One of my favourite feelings is being out in heavy rain (intentionally, getting caught in it when you're going somewhere is not as fun). It makes me feel alive.

Not so great if sitting on an electric scooter or powerchair! I used to take Gus out in all weathers, but not in the last 3 years.

Very true, I hadn't even considered that! Can they be used in the rain at all? I imagine not but have no idea. How long have you had Gus?

8 years next month, he was 8 weeks old when I got him. He turned 8 yo in May past.
My scooter has survived getting wet, but only when I was caught out, I don't go out in anything more than light rain. I own it, so I can take risks, but my portable powerchair is much too open to risk in the rain. I have aan XXXL packable waterproof that i carry on the scooter, it can at least be zipped over the tiller, the most vulnerable part.

I'm in the Midlands and it been up to 38 this week, trying to sleep. I got fans , having copd with this heat not good. Constantly changing clothes . If you have autism we find it difficult to regulate our body temperature

Last night was the worst one yet. Outside was 38c until about 8pm. But was still above 30c when I went to bed. No difference with windows open. Over 33c indoors at that point. Drenched in sweat. Struggling to breathe. Then we had massive cracks of thunder throughout the night as well! Had to get up at about 5am to open the windows as it was still 33c in here. (Heat is in the building now, not just the air). But even though it was around 24c outside at 5am, still didn't drop below 30c inside. And have had to close the windows and curtains again now as the sun is out again. 😑

I agree, last night (and yesterday in general) were awful and the worst of this heatwave so far. I've got everything open this morning, it's probably not wise but even my front door is open to get some air through the house. I can feel it all in my chest because the air is so thick 😣 I'm sat in a shady spot in my garden currently but I know not everyone can do that.
Can I ask why you keep the windows closed? If it's cooler outside I'd keep them open for now to try and cool the building down a little. Just today and tonight to get through, tomorrow is meant to be a bit cooler and then Monday cooler still, thank goodness.

It isn't cooler outside here. The windows are south facing so they get sun all day. That's why they have to be closed until the sun has passed over. Usually I can open them from around 4pm in June, but yesterday it remained hotter outside than in throughout the evening.

I think our max here was 38, although that's just shade temperature, some of the roads and pavements in London have been 50-60!
I didn't know that about autism but it makes sense. I also have POTS and EDS, so regulating body temperature is nearly impossible for me but I assumed it was purely related to them, it's probably some of the autism coming through too.

That's awful, I'm sorry @OverlyAnxious.
I don't sleep wearing a lot but at one point in the night last night I drenched a tshirt in cold water, wrung it out and wore that in bed. I don't like the feeling of wet clothes or sleeping with stuff on but it really helped me get through the night.
I truly hope today is better for you and we can all breathe a little more easily come Monday.

I was wearing my usual M&S thermals, the lightweight summer ones. I also slept quite comfortably under my duvet. 😴
22C atm, 71% humidity, a good deal warmer than yesterday. We are forecast to have more thundery showers.
