My old Primary school was built/opened in 1901 apparently.
And it's still there, I don't think it's ever been modernised either.
They knocked my old Secondary school down in 1996 (best thing they ever did to that place IMO, apparently it's a Housing estate now, Oakes Park's still going strong though, been there Donkey's years that)

The few years i spent in London, I wish I had taken more of an opportunity to visit such places. The thing is, in my mid 20s, I had other iinterests. 🤔

St Mary's tower that i mentioned at the top of the thread, it is ajoined by the City Churches, an unusual setup of 2 churches in the same building.
Athough the origins of the church go back to the 12th century, the modern building was only built in the 1840s.

Not that i'm in any way bitter about it, but I just read that 2 previous churches were burnt down by the English, a very common theme! 😉

Thank you, sometimes I give up. I use a computer to use this site, but it got worse today. I tried to message scope, but it was just doing the not loading thing as usual. Posting a picture just wouldn't work at all, my text was there and so was the picture, but when pressed post comment, nothing there at all.

I love Chatsworth House and gardens and have visited a couple of times. It is such a lovely place.

I wonder how many bricks she personally laid… Always makes me chuckle when documentary programs say 'built by queen/king/wealthy landowner'. 😄

When you see all the new buildings going up now, with all the machinery and scaffolding, it amazes you how they did it back then.😊

It does and the new buildings are not as intricate as earlier ones.

Whilst not a building, the Camus Cross is a medieval standing stone (6 foot 6 inches), reckoned to date from the 10th century. It's only several miles from where i'm sitting.
There is an interesting folk tale surrounding it, if anyone cares to look it up.
We have a right to roam in Scotland, and I have twice been to see it, the second time with the posh landowner coming out to grumble at me! She said she owned the 90 odd acres, and I told her congratulations. 🙄

I've seen Lincoln Cathedral on here already so I'll add The Guildhall which dates back to 1520. It's central in the town and so if you're out and about shopping, no doubt you'll pass through it. The clock stops a lot recently which is a local talking point.
