The Prime Minister missed an opportunity to talk about "unpaid" carers when he made his speech on social care on Thursday !

You are all probably fed up with hearing how my wife has cared for me for over 20 years without a single days break - and I had really hoped that "Carers" would include unpaid as well as CARE WORKERS - But NO !

    How about you let the poor woman have a holiday. Just what are all those savings for if not that?

    With respect you do have significant savings, and have said before that your wife has refused outside help or to engage with services that would help her.

    Please bear in mind that we don't know their full situation and it may not be feasible for her to take a holiday @ChrisR777.

    Unfortunately being a Carer is very hard work and unless we loved the person we care for we would not be able to do it.

    Did you not previously mention that your wife gets Carers Allowance? @Wibbles

    Would it be possible for you to have some respite care so you wife could have a break from caring from you? Even if she just stayed at home or visited her parents.

    I appreciate that, and we can substitute holiday for some rest and recuperation. Just a break from a punishing schedule would surely be greatly beneficial. The lady has recently had a hysterectomy i believe?

    I personally knew a very wealthy man who died miserably, and in alot of pain, simply because he wouldn't spend any of his considerable fortune. (Unfortunately for us, he was also my maternal grandfather's employer).

    There are no pockets in a shroud, we can't take it with us etc.

    If she is happy and able to care for you, where's the problem? She must be a wife in a million, lucky you.
