Book Club September 2026 - The Theme: Books :)
Helloooo and welcome to our September edition of our new book club. This month’s theme is books, think books that are about books, about book clubs, bookshops, libraries, you name it.
You can decided what, when, and how many books with this theme to read during this month, and more importantly: it is up to you what to choose. Feel free to read a book from whatever category (romance, thriller, non-ficton, I even came across a horror book about a book club with vampires).
It would be nice if some of us could read the same story but, but this is optional. And there is a list below to help you find a book about book clubs. I am sure there are lists with book titles about libraries and more as well.
Since this is our first time, I have no idea if we need rules. I’d rather let things play out organically, but some issues might be worth discussing. For instance, what to do about spoilers? It wouldn’t be nice to ruin a book for someone else this way, but on the other hand… how can we discuss a book without getting into details?
And with that we can get started :) Please, share your ideas about what to read, how to discuss things, lists, and suggestions about what I haven’t thought about. Happy reading, y’all!

This sounds like a lovely idea @SmellyBin! I've been wanting to get better at reading for a while. I'll have a look at your lists and see if there's one I can try out.

A few books available on Netgalley for free in exchange for a review (mostly on Goodreads, but whatever you prefer), that are about libraries. One of these I've read: The Library of Botanical Witchcraft and it was a very cool book.

Friends You Haven't Met Yet by Clare Pooley about a bookstore, also on Netgalley. She always writes very heartwarming books.

Great idea @SmellyBin I'd like to join the book club. I've had The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler on my to-read list for a while. I might give it a go in September.

Hi @SmellyBin I have had a look the the lists you provided and have chosen two books that I like the look of. They are The Book Club for Troublesome Women and The Book That Matters Most.
Perhaps we could go with a theme and everyone say which book they are choosing and if more than one member choses the same it can then be discussed. Other than that when another member has read their book perhaps they could say what they liked about it and would they recommend to anyone else.
Perhaps we could adjust how the book club works as we go along.

I think I’ll be reading Sophie Green’s The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Book Club and/or The Last Library by Freya Sampson. Both are available on Bookbeat which I just started using for the first time, this app is free when you’re a new user for a month or 45 days, I am not exactly sure.
And this is the horror book that I mentioned: The Southern Bookclub’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. Not sure it is my cup of tea, definitely not my category, but I might give it a go if I can get it through this app. There is also Nextory as a book subscription (I might try that for free once my trial with Bookbeat is expired), I probably saw the book there.
Has anyone read a book from the Finlay Donovan series? Isn’t she an author or editor? I might give that one a go as well… It seems this is a sort of thriller, but with a wink?
Oh, there is another book on Netgalley worth mentioning: Comfort Read, also about a bookstore.
Too bad your book isn’t available to me, I like the description I saw @MissMarple , the same with the 2nd book you mentioned @Bluebell21. The 1st one I’ve read and it has got quite some interesting things going on.
Anyone else any thoughts?

I have started reading The Book Club for Troublesome Women and wow is it making me think. Some of it could apply to my own mother.
I cannot imagine being told my job was just a hobby, and having to take your husband with you to the GP's so they could sign off on you getting contraception.
Loving the way the women are beginning to connect and form their group.
Really enjoying this book.

I've had Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum on my my bookshelf for about a year or so this will finally give me the kick I need to move it up the tbr😊

I still haven't got through my current read, and The Jane Austen Book Club I was interested in will only be available at my library in October so I'll skip this month. I think I'll be that member that never reads the book but cheers on from the background because book clubs are awesome 😊

What bad luck @MissMarple Perhaps you could suggest a theme for our October club so we can debate and get a book to be in time for that? To have some time for the library in case it again takes a few weeks?
Nice to see you're enjoying to book @Bluebell21 Even though it is perhaps a bit of an uneasy or alienated experience? I remember that there were a wide variation of themes in that book, all very newish for those days but some still timely for ours…

Whatever works best for you @MissMarple However, I don't want you to be or feel excluded from the club so hopefully one of these themes fits with you and the availability at the library.

I've just finished Girl Woman Other by Bernardine Evaristo which means I can finally start my book for this month's book club. In the book by Evaristo The Feminine Mystique by Betty Frielan was mentioned, I think it was also a big part of The Book Club of Troublesome Women @Bluebell21?
Not sure if I am up to reading that classic, but I might try Roxanne Gay's Bad Feminist one of these days if I happen to come across it. According to one of the characters in the book by Evaristo Bad Fem is (also) about privilege and comparing grief instead of building bridges and acknowledging each other's pain with respect for one's background or experience. Now that I would like to read! Just not right now, I am glad to have started The Last Library with a bit more of a cozy setting.
