I think anything to do with Autumn would be a good fit for Halloween @SmellyBin, it doesn't have to be scary or witchy I don't think😄

I've got about 60ish pages left and I'm still enjoying it, I like how it's very character driven and quite slow😊 Do you have a favourite character?

I think that quote is really relevant! I think it sums up why I love reading so much because you get to experience worlds and peoples lives that are just so different to your own. Or sometimes actually very similar but they are dealing with things in a different way, very magical. What do you think about it?

These are some good ideas @V_s, your books sound very interesting! Are you writing anything at the moment?

Potato Peel Pie Book Club is the best title of a book I have ever heard @Ellie50😂 That sounds like a book club I'd like to be part of!! I have not heard of the genre LitRPG, what sort of genre is that? How are you finding it? Hope you recovering smoothly and swiftly, how are you feeling today?

Just a reminder that it's the nearly the last day to vote in the Poll for Octobers Book Club📚️

What nice suggestions for books @Ellie50 Of course, I've already added one to my to-read list :) LitRPG is new to me too, if you come across one that is absolutely smashing according to you or one that is a good fit to ease into this sort of book, please let us know.

Will you be joining us for the next book club?

And I'm glad you're on the mend, What bad luck to have another case of Covid. Fingers crossed for you that every day brings a bit more relief.

I have finished Welcome To The Hyunam-Dong bookshop and thoroughly enjoyed it @SmellyBin. I'm so glad I finally got round to reading it! Are you still finding it a good read?

How have you been recently @MissMarple? I hope you are doing okay. Have you been able to read much lately?

Here is the new discussion for the October 2026 Book Club - Banned Books, it would be lovely to see you all there!

I really enjoyed Welcome to the Hyanam-dong Bookshop for several reasons, one of them being the timely topics. Especially when it comes to slowing down and finding your own rules to live by, everyone being different – we need to acknowledge that, there is no one way to fix things.
I don’t have a fav character, do you? But I do like the way the people had their own struggles and vulnerabilities such as Heejoo leaving the introduction of the book club for being too nervous, and also her bringing up the fact that the book club members are more than just mums.

Also a very big ‘yay’ for the book not being unrealistically happy at the end, sometimes feel-good books annoy the you-know-what out of me if they are like a fairy tale wrapping things up, every possible problem being cleaned up. In this case there was someone with a toxic family member and I can tell you from experience that an issue like this cannot always be resolved. When reading a book that denies that part of life, it makes me wonder whether the book has cardboard-flat characters or whether I am the one being just that… if that makes sense? @Mary_Scope

I'm glad you enjoyed the book too @SmellyBin!

I had a bit of a soft spot Yeongju because it must really take some courage and a lot of inner work to realise you're not happy with your life, leave a lot of things behind and change it despite what society says.

That makes sense, it makes the characters and the story feel more fleshed out and "real" for lack of a better word!

It did make me want to own a bookshop with a little coffee shop at the back that servies good coffee and delicious pastries though😍

And I've put the first book she mentioned, The Elegance of the Hedgehog, on my to-read list, but haven't found it available yet. @Mary_Scope

    Hello all,

I'm glad you've been busy reading. Plenty of interesting books you've mentioned. Unfortunately life got in the way for me again. Just too many things to deal with with non-existent energy. October doesn't look much better either, but I might join in the reading in November. Fingers crossed.
