Do you put the Big Light on?💡
By the 'Big Light' I mean the ceiling light, rather than smaller table or standing lamps scattered across the room.
I think it should only be reserved for special occasions. For example, if you need to see well to do the ironing or need to find something you've dropped on the floor.
But my partner will quite happily sit for a relaxing evening under the power of the full Big Light experience. Not for me!
Are you a Big Light person? Or if not, do you think there are occasions where the Big Light is justified?

Little lamps only please
Never ever ever! And it's little lamp, singular.
Obviously, if somebody's here then I'll have to manage their requirements 🙄 but that's not often these days 😁

Usually the table lamp is enough for me in the evening. It's a touch one with 3 settings and I have it on low setting.

Yes to the Big Light
The light goes on for me coming back in from a Gus walk. I have a mobility scooter to bring into the living room via patio doors, after I have cleaned the tyres with a screwdriver and toothbrush (I wear a head torch to attend to the scooter in the back garden).
I have a small lamp next to my hospital bed, in the middle of the living room, but otherwise I only have the ceiling lights available to me.

This is more split than I was expecting! Interesting, very interesting 🤔
I could probably accept a dimmer switch @[Deleted User], that sounds like a good compromise. How bright do you usally have it?

I prefer to sit in the dark
I don't have any additional lights. So big light on to eat dinner during winter months. But I sit in the dark with the TV on after dinner.

I put the big lights on in the hall and a lamp in the living room. Both are smart bulbs which come on and go off at set times. I have a salt lamp on at all times of the day, never switch it off. I also have a small led plug in solar light in the corner as well.

I'm a firm believer in only putting a light on in the kitchen or bathroom and turning off when not in use. What's the point in having the place like Blackpool Illuminations and wasting electric. Small lamp is enough for me when watching telly.

Lots of little lamps here, but I must have the big light when I’m cooking

I think we can tell the telly watchers from the readers here! Also who does or doesn't darn their holey socks. 🤣

I don't even notice, my daughter is particular about it and will often come into whatever room I'm in and change the lighting. I'll be sat reading in the dark until I'm squinting at the pages and not think to turn on the light 😅
@[Deleted User] I always thought dimmer switches were the height of sophistication, my friend had them when I was young and I was certain she must be extremely rich 🤣

@Rag_793 hahaha you reminded me of my dad always saying that, he'd come down the stairs muttering about lights with the classic "Bl***y Blackpool alluminations in here!"

What about those of us who read regularly but wouldn't know how to begin to darn a holey sock?!

I did not know anyone darned holey socks anymore @ChrisR777 I thought they just bought new ones.

With LED bulbs I doubt the 'big light' uses much electricity nowadays. A floor or table lamp is likely to use the same amount. Using multiple smaller lamps is likely to use more! The colour difference is usually made with filters now, rather than being a big difference in power.
My own big light uses just 9w…that means it would only cost about 50p a week if left on all day, every day.
I remember back in the day we had a big light with 5x 60w conventional filament bulbs in it. That's 300w. Meaning it would use about £15 a week at todays prices! 😲

I'm more of a… well what's the opposite of a Tradwife?
I actually have a love/hate relationship with the Tradwife lifestyle, in my head I'd love to be able to grow my own food, make everything from scratch and have my own little homestead but I also love convenience and getting to be lazy sometimes 😆 I certainly never learned any of the skills to be able to do it either.

I forgot how different lights used to be! Imagine £15 a week just for your lights 😲
