Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations regarding places to get toys and things. Have just had a very bad experience with an online specialist retailer but find the big three (Rompa, spacecraft and tfh) a bit out of my price range!
I've come across some random things over the years that have been fab for my son (14, PMLD/complex needs, likes noisy things and fidget type things but still sticks everything in his mouth) - I have very fond memories of a gold Waterstones helium balloon lasted for almost a year - he didn't have the coordination to pull the balloon down to him but watched it for ages, and we'd give it to him and he'd hug it, loving the crunchy noise/texture then let it go and watch it move around catching the light! Have you got any stories or recommendations to share?

Hi, are you familiar with the Newlife Charity? They lend "play pods" to families of disabled children for three months at a time, free of charge, in categories of auditory, visual and interactive. We had some good toys from them!

Toy libraries often have toys and equipment for disabled children, and they're a great way to try before you buy. You can find your nearest toy library here: http://www.netmums.com/local-to-you/local/index/indoor-play/toy-libraries Do also check out our tips section for ideas, in particular our Sensory section: https://community.scope.org.uk/tips/sensory and Activities & games: https://community.scope.org.uk/tips/activities-and-games

Thanks guys - we used Newlife way back when our son had major surgery and we needed to rent a very posh specialist wheelchair (£££££!) but didn't know they did that - I will definitely go and have a look - thanks.
Will check out toy libraries and the tips section too - can't believe I hadn't thought to look already!
Thanks for the help

Have you checked out the Fledglings catalogue?

Our OT said she would send a list of reputable companies and would write a letter so that we would get grant funding as we can't afford expensive equipment. Is that an option for you?

Hi I know the original post was a while ago, but always a good idea to share great places that sell sensory toys.
There is one place that a lot of people have had trouble with, which might be best not to name as have seen a lot of heated debates on other forums
But sensory toy warehouse are fantastic - would definately recommend them!!
