I have recently completed a form for lower level permitted work, as I was told I had to apply for permission to do this. (I am on ESA and in the support group) but a friend who has a contact in the local benefits office, told me I only had to tell them that I was doing the lower level, can anyone clear up this confusion for me pls.

Hi
There is a very good factsheet on the Disability Rights UK website about permitted work. http://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/work-people-living-disability-or-health-conditions
Although you don't need permission as such to undertake permitted work, you do have to inform the DWP and the form you completed is probably the best way to go about this. I hope that helps clear things up for you.
Best wishes
