Recently our helpline have received a number of calls from people who have been tricked into paying £49 to apply for their Blue Badge online.

The scam: When searching online for the blue badge application webpage, people are presented with a false website. When the website is clicked they will go through the application process, but will then be charged £49 to apply.

How to avoid getting caught out: When applying for your blue badge online, only use the official government website - https://www.gov.uk/apply-blue-badge or the official website of your local authority. The cost of a blue badge is up to £10 in England and Northern Ireland for a successful application, £20 in Scotland, and free of charge in Wales.

If you come across any bogus application websites, let us know the web address in the comments below so that others can be warned.

This is much the same as getting help and assistance in applying for a passport or driving licence. Some people just cannot cope with form filling and have no one to turn to for help. £49/£50 for that help is there if you need it.
To say that these organisations are scammers is not entirely true. They do actually offer a service for those that need it for a small price.

Thank you for telling me. How do we spread the word about this latest horrific scam?
