ESA support group

in Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Can anyone tell me what happens if someone is placed in this group ? All I really know is that people don't have to attend job centre interviews. Do people in this group have to periodically fill in another ESA50 ( previously IB50) form and if so how often ?

    All ESA claims are subject to review. ESA is an open ended award and reveiws can happen anytime from three months to three years for the support group

    support group means u don.t have to go to back to work interviews and money a little higher then work related one x

    Hi could anyone tell me how long it usually takes for an esa decision to be made? I had my health assesment 11 weeks ago. Thankyou in advance

    I would of thought you would of heard from them by now does probably depend on backlog .have you rung them for an update.x

    How did it go today?
    I had mine 11 weeks ago and i rang them after 6 weeks to see if a decision had been made and was told i had been put in the support group therfore i wouldnt need to send anymore fit notes in and i would be grtting an increase in payment. So i was relieved about that. But the very next morning i got a letter asking me to send my 3rd fit note in. I presumed letters had crossed . But then after another 2 weeks when i still hadnt heatd anything i rang again. This time i was told the decision hadNOT been made. I asked how this could be and told them what i had been told 2 weeks earlier and was told the guy i spoke to must have misentetpreted it....and that was that. I was confused so rang again a few days later to ask why they had made this mistake and was told there was a note on my claim reccomending the support group from the assesor and thats what he misentrepeted but still no decision had been made. Ive rang again today and still no decision. Is it normal to take this long does anyone know?

    When any of us get placed in The Support Group we lose more than interviews and appointments. We still get assessed so the DWP can see that we're still fit to be in The Support Group. If someone in The Support Group wants to get a career they won't have the help and resources people on the work related programme get from the DWp

    Hi

    I am in support group and have been since May 2013. My doctor, my support worker and a welfare advser from the British Legion made an application for me to be put on ESA instead of JSA. That worked, but then I was moved into support group five months later, without explanation or reason. to this day, the DWP have never explained why I am being parked there, and they wont address my repeated questions of what help can I get to return to work.

    I am now beinging to get some feedback (not from DWP) but from other avenues like NHS and tribunal, that I am being treated and viewed as a potentical violent mentally ill person, and it appears this led the tribunal to hold my PIP Appeal in secret where they excluded me from attending, and brought in a Rtd Psychiatrist who specialises in personality disorder. Something is wrong here, possibliy even illegal, and being in the Support group does not justify such action.

    Hi Liam

    much thnks for links i think i have read these. what i have found useful was a work and persions select committee findings that shwoed that the DWP may be parking problem customers into support gruop as there are consdiered to be poor LMP (Labour market potenctical), i will find the link to the Parliament minutes of the findings and see if they can be added to this forum
