I am looking for advice, I am currently injured with a spinal problem. I am at some stage going to go onto statutory sick pay which won't cover bills, mortgage etc. What help can I get if any? I have looked at pip but looks like you need to be totally disabled and bedridden to qualify and I've looked at esa which is similar. I've spoken to people on the phone and couldn't get an answer. I have been off two and a half months and if I require surgery which I think I will, I will not be able to work for a good three months plus after the surgery whilst I recover.

Hello dhans53 and welcome
There are self tests for both ESA and PIP on the B&W site. Try these and see if you might qualify
http://www.mybenefitsandwork.co.uk/med2/indexxx.php
http://www.mybenefitsandwork.co.uk/pip/indexxx.php
You can also put your details into the on line benefit calculator
PIP is only payable if a condition has been in place for 3 months and likel;y to continue for a further 9 months. It is only awarded if you have trouble with some daily tasks
If you are able to get advice from CAB this may be your best option

Hi @dhans53
Welcome to the community and I am sorry to hear about your injury.
You can try the online benefits calculator here and as @CockneyRebel says above there are self tests for PIP and ESA to see how you could score.
