Then i have no idea, SMI isn't really my area of great knowledge, i'm sorry. I really hope you get it sorted soon. Maybe contact your local MP of some help or your local CAB/welfare rights for further advice. Good luck.

    Hi @debbiedo49,

This sounds like a right muddle. Nothing in the benefits world is straight forward at the moment and it's getting worse!

I think you'll definitely need to seek some local advice about this but if you're not able to get that advice where you live, please get in touch with me at the helpline and I'll book you into one of my clinics so we can go through it and work out what's going on.

Are you keeping in touch with your lender and are they being helpful? Are they talking about possession action?

It's pretty difficult to challenge when you haven't been given a reason why you don't qualify. Challenge anyway though and hopefully we can find you some local help with this.

    Best wishes
    Debbie

Thank you. Yes my lender is keeping in touch. So far they’ve been understanding as im paying my contribution.  It is now that I know I’ve been refused that makes me worried what’s will happen. So I need to know why.

Waiting on a call from s m I.  The DWP asked me if I had any breaks in my jsa which I have not.

    Thanks for the update @debbiedo49

If you've not had any breaks and you were getting SMI before it changed to a loan, I can't think of any obvious reason why you've been turned down for the loan. If the paperwork was late this could be a reason but without a reason we're a bit stuck. Let's hope they get in touch today and let you know what is going on.

I'll keep an eye on further updates from you.

    Best wishes
    Debbie

After numerous attempts by myself and jcp to get s m I to contact me about my case, finally today they called me as they are dealing with the backlog on a Saturday. It seems there may be an issue with the system where my application has been done manually and it appears like a new claim on the system and I can't apply for a period of time. After talking tome me the advisor needs time to look more closely at my claim and find out what happened to my paperwork from the start. I may have to repeat the forms again if they can't trace my originals. I should hear more on Monday.
    Thanks

I've been advised to complete new forms as a safety measure.  @Debbie_Scope

    Hey @debbiedo49,

Thanks for the update. What a palaver! All this worry and confusion for months only to find out you have to apply all over again. It's very concerning that this has happened. Will you consider a complaint to the DWP for these mistakes and delays? I would certainly encourage this.

    Best wishes

    Hey debbie_scope
I got a voicemail from smi today to let me know they found my papers and the payments will begin in January as well as the arrears. The same person has been calling me since I raised an escalated email via jobcentreplus 2 weeks ago. There is something very wrong with their system for this to happen. I now have mortgage arrears and it will affect my credit rating. I had no choice as I can't afford to pay my full mortgage myself but would have tried to pay more when I could to keep arrears down. Not to mention the stress of weekly calls from my lender. It's not good. Thanks for all your help.
