How true I was in Hastings last summer. NO GREGGS. NO ICELAND, NO KFC.NO BURGER KING AND NO McDonalds and not a Pound Shop in sight and a vast difference in people waist sizes.

Went to visit the battle site just to be told by a local the battle took place about a mile down the road.

Yes that is a bit confusing as to actually where the battle took place.
If you head from Battle north east towards Cranbrook and Tenterden you will pass through areas to die for. Stop off at Northiam for a cup of tea on the old station platform and opposite you will see what were the old Guinness hop fields. Have lunch/dinner at Tenterden  before travelling to the Isle of Oxney via the old royal shipyards where the sea now no longer reaches. End up at Dungerness via Rye to see the huge expanse of pebble beach - an area where time has stopped still.

Visit the likes of Folkestone & Dover and you will find the other side of Kent - poor & run down where no decent upmarket shops want to put their roots.
