If part of your ESA is contributions based then this is taxable income but what you'll receive will be below the tax allowance so you won't pay any tax at all. The Income related top up which the SDP is part of is NOT taxable. You have nothing to worry about and they are not taking any money off you, it's just you haven't understood the letter you've received.
