Hi all,
im sufferings quite badly at the moment I have a large bulging disc right at the bottom of my spine and it is squashing my left nerve causing sciatica I am on the waiting list for surgery but when I had the MRI for this it also showed I had DDD al this is made worse by the fact I am a full time carer for my nearly 3 yr old son who has Angelman syndrome he is tall for his age and cannot walk so I have to carry him everywhere to bed, to his chair and to constantly change his nappy
can anybody help

Hi,Your thread is tilted DLA if you're asking about claiming this for yourself then DLA no longer exists for those aged over 16 and PIP has replaced it.PIP isn't awarded based on a diagnosis, it's how those conditions affect your ability to carry out daily activity based on the PIP descriptors. You'll need evidence to support your claim and a face to face assessment is most likely. If you have any more questions then i'm sure someone will answer you. Some information here on PIP.

Hi @shazza119, are you looking to apply for PIP for yourself, DLA for your son or both?

Hi Adrian,
sorry I should have made it clearer my son already receives high rate DLA I was wondering if I was eligible for Pips with my bulging disc which I’m waiting for surgery for and the DDD? -

Hi @shazza119, just to reiterate what Poppy has said, it is possible you are eligible for PIP but it would depend on how your bulging disc and sciatica affect you personally, just having the conditions won't qualify you as PIP isn't based on diagnosis.
If you take a look at some of the links Poppy provided, especially this one, it should give you some idea as to whether you qualify.
I hope that helps!
