PIP & SDP Backpayment

Hi all,

I am looking for some advise please , my brother was recently awarded pip daily living  component which was backdated to September 2019 when he first applied.

After receiving confirmation of pip award at the beginning of March 2020 Dwp sent him a letter  advising he may be entitled to more benefits and to fill in form and return . He is currently in receipt of ESA work related group  The extra benefit was SDP which he qualifies for and is now being added to his ESA but I was of the belief it should be backdated to the date pip was awarded. Today a letter arrived and it is only backdated to March.

Does anyone know if this correct , I have been  searching  online  for clarification but I can't find anything that would stop him from getting it backdated to September 2019 but maybe I am missing something.

Before we phone them I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some guidance on this.

Many thanks in advance ?

Hello @saz11. Yes, as long as he met the qualifying criteria between September and March, the SDP should be backdated to the start of his PIP award. Give them a call, this may be an oversight on their part.
