Hi there, my relatives are in receipt of Pension Credit, Husband is 68yrs old Wife is 63yrs old. She also gets Carers Allowance for looking after her Mum. Husband has got COPD. Want to know if he can apply for Attendance Allowance? Would it affect their entitlement to Pension Credit? Also would it be classed as a New Claim, affecting the money they already have coming in.
thanks

i think you may have to check with pension credit people, my late mum got pension credit and lost another benefit so check with them, good luck

Thanks Katho31
Attendance Allowance is non means tested, so maybe it won’t affect anything they are already receiving.

AA can only make you better off.

Thanks
it won’t affect anything else this couple have coming in then? -
Hi @ponies - Attendance Allowance won't adversely affect their benefits. Here's the DWP's information booklet which mentions this: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/814733/aa1-attendance-allowance-interactive-claim-form.pdfHope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help & advice

AA only counts as income in very limited circumstances relating to resi/nursing care. It cannot make you worse off and can potentially increase the amount of Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
