Exploring the understandings of green prescriptions: a Foucauldian discourse analysis

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to explore your understandings of ‘green prescriptions’. ‘Green prescriptions’ are nature-based non-medical interventions such as gardening, physical exercise (walking), bird-watching and other activities that improve mental and physical health. We wish to explore your understandings of ‘green prescriptions’ that may affect your mental well-being and the impact of psychiatric inpatient services on mental health.  I am hoping to add to the understanding and wider use of ‘green prescriptions’ for physical and mental well-being.

Who is eligible to take part?

Everyone aged 18 and over who received or are receiving medical treatment for their mental health issues and had at least one voluntary or involuntary admission to a psychiatric hospital. Your participation would be much appreciated if you choose to take part in this study.

What will happen to me if I take part?

This project is based online where you would have an opportunity to read more detailed information about the study, asked about your basic demographic information and provide an informed consent. The study consists of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, an article - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-33368691, an interview and Montogomey-Asberg Depression Raring Scale. You would be asked to provide personal details if you choose to participate in an interview and the research would contact you. The interview would be arranged for when it is most convenient to you using most convenient method e.g. skype, WhatsApp. The interview would take between 15 and 30 minutes and you would receive a copy of the questions prior to taking part. Confidentiality would be upheld to the highest standards throughout.
