Adjustable desk not working but due to return to work
Hi all, it's my first time here so please bear with me. I have been shielding since March but had notification in June that the adjustable desk (one that lowers and raises to allow me to sit and stand as and when I need due to back and mobility issues) is not working. Yesterday I was told that it still isn't fixed and I am due to return to work in 4 days. They are fully aware that I am unable to sit and work as a call handler for a full shift without this desk. Sorry this was long but does anyone have any advice?

Hello @calsiam welcome to the community. I’m Emma, one of the Community Champions. Glad to have you with us. So sorry to hear of your difficulties. I know it is tricky, but perhaps you could talk to your employer about working from home until the desk is ready. Specify that need the adjustment in place so that you can work more comfortably.

Hi Emma. Work have already informed me that my type job role does not allow me to work from home, unfortunately.0

@calsiam Oh no. I hope the Scope team are able to give you some advice. Please let me know how you are getting on and if I can help you with anything else.1

Hi @calsiam - & welcome to the community from me too. I don't know if 'Reasonable adjustments' have previously been discussed with your employer, & that's why they provided this adjustable desk, but perhaps look at Scope's info on this: https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/reasonable-adjustments-at-work/#Reasonable-adjustments-at-workPerhaps bringing this into a discussion with your employer may be helpful, as you still need the desk, but in working condition.I hope you can get this sorted, & kindly let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome @calsiam, glad you have joined us here.
Have you looked into 'access to work' they provide equipment and fund some adaptions to allow people to remain in work.
You have to apply rather than the employer but it may be an option to get a new desk or the one you have repaired, Im sure it wont happen overnight but may help with the cost
I hope you get it sorted so you can return to work0 -
Hi. Well it was during the search for this that I found Scope. I called a rep and they suggested in the first instance, get in touch with HR. So I've just emailed.0
-
Ok but dont let access to work gob you off
HR can only help from company view and that maybe the problem that they dont have funds to replace which is where access to work would come into play0 -
Excellent, I'm still all new to this kind of thing. Thanks guys.0
-
Re access to work, I've just made an application via gov.uk. let's see how it goes.0

Hi @calsiam and a warm welcome to the community! I hope the advice given by others will help. Please do let us know if there is anything else.
Feel free to look around and get involved.1
