Question about adductor surgery

Hi, everyone! My name is Ally and I am based outside the UK. Five days ago, I had surgery for spastic diplegia (was very functional before, though, and could walk unassisted and even walk up and down stairs). It was pretty major and I had a femoral derotation osteotomy and an adductor myotomy to loosen the adductors. They put a bar in between my knees to keep my legs spread open, and I am wondering if the pain will become more manageable? Or is it going to hurt the entire two weeks the adductor bar is there? What was people's experience?
Thank you so much,
Hugs,
Ally

Hi @AlejandraTR17
Welcome to the online community, how are you?
This isn't something I know much about, but hopefully one of our other members will be along soon to advise on this
I do hope the pain becomes more manageable for you, it must be uncomfortable.

Hi @AlejandraTR17
Good to speak with you. I had similar surgeries when I was younger.
The bar is essential to make sure that your abductor muscles do not return to their original positions and are stretched. The pain and discomfort will ease over time as the muscles heal. It's very important that you fully engage with your physiotherapy and try not to remove the bar.

Hi, @Chloe_Scope! Thank you for asking The abduction bar comes off tomorrow. I'm happy to report -- in case anyone ever peaks into this thread -- that the pain and discomfort subsided over time, and that I needed less and less medication as time went by. They gave me a strong muscle relaxer that helped with the spasticity, which felt painful, and with the pain in general.

I'm really glad to hear that the pain reduced over time @AlejandraTR17! I hope it went okay on Tuesday.
